"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senator Barack Obama
Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

No grass cutting going on around here today  ( I do my own BTW). Normally all you can hear is weedeaters and lawnmowers!

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

I'm really trying hard to understand this movement. I saw one of the demonstration leaders saying he's "urging children to stay out of school to join the march". The lack of children in schools affects our economy how? I know that the lack of children in schools affects the budget the state affords schools- but the lack of children will affect that budget negatively, so like everything else about this march the affects can only be negative for the people joining it.

Dude, those are wackos demostrating for the "rights" (whatever those are) of those that have no leg to stand on to even be here in the first place. You think you'll be able to see some rationale in their message and/or methods? They're wackos. That's all.

You have to feel bad for the ones who are legal, they must be feeling pretty bad today thinking that they did it the right way and everyone looks at them the same way. Kudo's to those who did go to work today legal or otherwise, cause your right everyone does need to get paid. The demonstations do not get anyone on their side for the disruption they will or hope to cause.

I think they should take the week off in fact.

Am I missing something here? if they are all illegal.......................why are they showing their faces on national television? better yet.............what it happening to the people who employ "illegal immigrants?"

Maybe I am just a little frustrated about my k-1 ####### at the moment-but this whole thing is really starting to aggrivate me.

from an irish website:

Immigrants in the US have begun a one-day nationwide strike and business boycott to demand legal rights for millions of illegal immigrants.

Early reports suggested many illegal immigrants were obeying a call to stay away from work and school and avoid spending money, in order to prove the value of immigrants to the US economy.

Many businesses have shut down voluntarily to avoid disruption.

The organisers want an amnesty and eventual citizenship for the estimated 11.5m illegal immigrants currently in the US.

if people are shutting down for the day-wouldn't that be a red flag to the government that they are employing illegals??

I am afraid of watching CNN because they seem to be lumping us legal immigrants with the illegals and that offends me

it offends me too. on one hand there are those following the set procedures and showing respect for the law...and on the other hand, those that ignore it. yet it's all the same to our illiterate media.
