My fiance Carol does not know how to get her NBI clearence from the Philippines or Police certificate for when she worked in Okinawa Japan. Carol lives in General Santos City in Mindanao.

I found this link on the U.S. Dept. of State website. But do not understand what Carol needs to do to get Police certificate from Okinawa Japan. Does she write to them and send money? They have very little information and it is very frustrating. It does not give information on how to get police certificate for applicants outside of Japan.

The link :

http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/reciproc...ocity_3591.html

Police Certificates

Available. Japanese police certificates will not contain information about criminal convictions when:

The period of suspended sentence has ended;

The penalty of the crime was a fine, and the crime occurred more than five years ago;

The term of the prison sentence ended more than ten years ago; or

The conviction was vacated or the criminal was subject to a pardon or amnesty.

Persons convicted of crimes in Japan may obtain court conviction records indefinitely. The headquarters' records section of the Metropolitan or Prefectural police issues certificates which include a nationwide criminal records check.

Applicants Outside of Japan: Former legal residents, former illegal aliens, and Japanese citizens, should apply at the nearest Japanese Consulate. Processing time: Two to three months.

Thanks you very much any help will be appreciated greatly.

My wife is also from General Santos. My wife did not need to get a police certificates but I believe the police certificates are obtained from her local purok or barangay. Tell her about "barangay" and she'll know what Im talking about.

Also, your wife can also get NBI clerance in General Santos but it's much, much quicker if she gets it in Davao. Davao is about 2 1/2 bus ride but its worth it if you're in a hurry. My wife was told in General Santos that it could take a few weeks for the clearance. A friend told her that she could get it in Davao in a day and its true.

Hope that helps.

I cant edit my ownpost but I just realized, the info I gave you above is wrong. he he. Sorry. Your wife needs to get her police certificate in Japan and I'm not sure how one could obtain that. :whistle:

But reading from your post, it sounds like your wife can get a police certificate from the Japanese embassy in Manila.

Here's they're info. I'd make a call to them to get more info.

Thank you so much for the help. Carol said she can get the NBI clearence in GenSan. I will give her the number for the Japanese embassy in Manila to call. We are getting nervous because we just got our NOA2 letter approval after waiting so long. Now it is time for us to get all our papers organized for Carol.

Thanks again,

Richie

My fiancee got her barangay clearance. But as we understood she needed to go to Davao to get the NBI quickly? You are saying there is a place in GenSan that will give NBI the same day? what place is this in Gensan?

If you are a Pilipino, the **ONLY** Philippine issued Police Clearance that you require is from the NBI. Local baranguy clearances are NOT required.

Of course, if you have lived out of the country for 6 months or more since age 16, you will also need a national police clearance from each of those countries.

Warm Regards,

Samby

I just want to agree with what Samby said. You need the NBI clearance and not the barangay clearance, even if you have only lived in one place in PI. We brought my fiance's barangay clearance to the k-1 interview and were told that they could not issue the visa until we got the NBI clearance. It added weeks onto the whole process. So make sure you bring the NBI clearance to avoid the same complication that we had to go through.
