I hate to say it, but I'm not surprised by what happened. As you said, Chicago weather (especially this time of year) is extremely unreliable.

To make matters worse, ORD is notorious for long delays and cancellations. That's one of the downsides to flying into a major airline's primary hub, which of course, O'Hare International is for United Airlines. You might want to think about taking a slight detour to Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW), which is a major hub for Southwest Airlines (and to a lesser extent, Continental Airlines, Delta Airlines, and Northwest Airlines). There are some other minor airports available as well, but ORD and MDW are the only two major airports in Chicago.

I have to be in Chicago for an 8:30am meeting that I am leading.... there are 20 people waiting for me. I booked a flight yesterday, not trusting the reliability of United/Chicago weather to get me there on time first thing in the morning.

Well, my 3:43pm departure canceled due to Chicago weather and they were expecting the 10pm departure to cancel as well. So I booked on the 6am departure this morning and went home.

I had to get up at 3:45am this morning to make it for the 6am departure, only to find out that the flight has been delayed to depart at 8:30am. Crew rest due to late arrival of the aircraft last night. Sigh. I could have slept at least 2 more hours.

With the time difference, I'll be arriving in Chicago at 8:30am, obviously late for my meeting. By the time I take the CTA and cab to my meeting location, it's likely to be 10am..... and I'm 'supposed' to come back on the last flight of the night tonight. I packed a toothbrush just in case.

Business travel is SO over-rated. This is going to be a long day.

Can't help it when mother nature does not cooperate.
