Visa for american tourist??

Hi

Ok I think I am right to think an american citizen doesnt need to apply visa to go to france (or shengen space ), only the passport is needed ( and a round trip ticket)

It s the same condition for french ppl to visit usa...

But when I go to embassy websites, I find visa form for short stay ( 90 days)

So I am lost... does it need to apply or not??

A passport is required to enter France and Monaco. A visa is not required for tourist/business stays up to 90 days in France and Monaco. Anyone intending to stay more than 90 days must obtain the appropriate visa issued by one of the French Consulates in the U.S., prior to departure for France. This also applies to anyone considering marriage in France. The 90-day period begins when you enter any of the Schengen group of countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden.

Jun 11, 2008 -------> AoS case transferred to CSC

Jul 05, 2008 -------> AP Approval

Jul 09, 2008 -------> EAD approval

Jul 14, 2008 -------> EAD and AP received
