I was just wondering if anyone knows how N400 apps are processed. I mean we send them to our service center (Nebraska in my case) and the processing dates are through the local field office. What does Nebraska do with these apps before they send them to our local office. Anyone have any ideas?

Your place on the waiting list will depend on the completion of 3 steps: 1) obtaining your A file from storage at the National Records Center in Missouri, 2) receiving results of your fingerprint check (usually within 48 hours of submission) and 3) completion of the FBI name check. At that point, your case is placed on the waiting list for scheduling. For instance, a case I know of was filed on June 11, 2007, was placed on the waiting list for scheduling August 31, 2007 and will be scheduled when USCIS gets around to scheduling the cases placed on the list 8/31/2007.

A number of people who filed back in 2006 are still waiting too. These cases have been delayed because FBI name checks have not been completed yet and USCIS does not have authority to grant benefits until this step is completed. $15 million is being spent to try to clear this name check backlog by July 1, 2008. Whether that will happen or not, who knows.

Hi Cal,

Your case seems similar to mine. We sent our N-400 on 1/5/08, check was cashed on 1/10/08 and we received the NOA1 on 1/16/08. I have been tracking others N-400 from this site, sent to a service centers both before and after ours. I don't know why we haven't received the biometrics notice as it seems everyone else does shortly after NOA1. Also, our service center number cannot be tracked on the USCIS site, it comes back as invalid. I know this happens sometime but what really is annoying is that when you now place a call to the misinformation line, it asks that you enter your service center number before being connected to a human. Since our number hasn't registered, I cannot even connect through the 800 number.

I asked, through a Senator's office, to verify status at the service center (NSC). The reply was that the paperwork was received and the NSC was waiting for an interview availability time from the district office. I am still somewhat concerned that we haven't received a biometrics notice but this is all the Senator's office will do at this early stage. So we continue to wait and see what happens over the next few months.

On a side note, I thought the whole point of taking electronic biometrics was so it didn't need to be repeated with every application. Marilyn has already had two sets completed already, at AOS and again at removal of conditions.

Please let us know if anything happens with your application and we will do the same. As both of our timelines are similar and we share the same service center and district office, please let us know if your status changes.

Take care, Marilyn and Peter.

K-1 Timeline in Profile (our story)

Church wedding Sept 18

NOA1's for AOS/EAD received Sept 20 MSC #

Biometrics completed Nov 5 2004

EAD Approval Dec 29 2004

AOS appointment letter received Feb 3 2005

AOS interview scheduled for March 9 2005

AOS interview mostly fine, just need I-693 supplement filled out by civil surgeon

Spend another $40 for I-693 form, sent to local USCIS office registered mail, arrived March 11 2005

AOS finally approved March 25th 2005

Green card arrives about 10 days later

!!Green card has incorrect middle name!! Thanks USCIS

Travel back to Denver, turn in card and I-90 to correct their mistake.

Application accepted, asked for I-551 stamp, they told me "We don't do stamps anymore"

NOA1 for I-90 received from NSC April 18 2005, fee waived

NSC appears to have stoped processing I-90's

Marilyn needs to travel back to the RP, call Senators office for help with green card or I-551 stamp

Travel back to Denver July 1, 2005 and received I-551 stamp in the passport.
