Here is one reason handguns should be legal. It's in the form of a scenario - Some crazy person walks into a shopping mall and raises a gun planning to mow down every person in the place. One law abiding citizen who happens to be at that same mall sees crazy person. Law-abiding Citizen draws his firearm and tells Crazy to drop his weapon. One of two things happens in this scenario - Crazy drops his weapon or doesn't an Law-abiding Citizen shoots him. Either way, the fact that someone in that shopping mall is armed ends up being a huge factor in saving many lives.

You forgot the likely scenario of law-abiding citizen thinking he's John Wayne (which most CCL owners I know fit the bill), firing off a whole clip in the general direction of the perp, and hitting several fleeing bystanders in the process.

I'm sorry, but this is not the wild west, hombre.

You also forget that CCW holders MUST take a firearms course (I believe this is so in all states) which makes your scenario quite unlikely.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

You give me at least 2 solid examples of this happens and I MIGHT give you a big fat "touché"

It's NOT the wild west... It's America

I'll provide two examples of it when you can provide two examples that match your descriptions. You're the one that started making up hypotheticals.

You sure make it seem like the Wild West.

Do I even need to point out the inherent inaccuracy of a short-barreled firearm to make my point?

Another reason is to deter burglars.

US burglars avoid breaking into occupied homes because they fear being shot: only

13 per cent of US burglaries took place while the victims were home, compared with

59 per cent in the UK.

I would rather be robbed than killed. The numbers of murders in the two countries are quite different per capita.

I'd rather kill the robber than be robbed.

I can only hope that you're not home when you're robbed.

Guess what? I really think the SC is going to overturn the DC law. Why? Because the constitution says so. So all the talk of a "wild west" is just sour grapes. Law abiding people have a right to have guns, get used to the idea!

How is it sour grapes? The idea of some gun-toting hero jumping out of the bushes to gun down the villain is straight out of a John Wayne movie.

As far as, "it's in the constitution is concerned," that dog don't hunt. As has been previously discussed, there are lots of limits to constitutional rights.

I wont disagree with that - but I do think there needs to be a bit of reason here. That the Clinton assault weapons bill was allowed to expire, and a replacement bill was shot down in 2007 wasn't the best decision IMO.

I can see a justification for having a handgun for home defense, even though I wouldn't get one myself - but I don't think people have any business tooling up with machine guns.

I, personally, don't think the ban is unconstitutional. It doesn't ban all weapons, just handguns, and I have yet to get one decent reason why handguns should be legal.

you can't stick a shotgun in your pants. happy now?

That is your right just as it is my right to have one. As long as you don't break into my house you will never have anything to fear from me or my gun.
