Well, I have had a couple of job interviews, one at a company I'd love to work for.

My interview was 3 weeks ago this coming Thursday (i.e. April 13). I thought it went REALLY well. It was over an hour long and afterwards the interviewer said "I'll call you!" very enthusiastically. I thought for sure I'd be hearing back soon, especially because she had called me the day after I submitted my resume for an interview.

The week after my interview I sent a thank you note. 2 weeks after my interview I left a follow up phone message on her machine (that is not normally my style but everyone told me this was a good idea - it was very casual, telling her I was still interested and to just give me a call when she got a chance).

Now there is only silence. I know that they are hiring several positions, so they must be very busy, but still I'd rather hear a NO than nothing!! I do have some more interviews coming, so if someone offers me a position I guess I will follow up again, but meanwhile, I wish they would call me back! :(

Do you think no news is good news or bad news? Did any of you have to wait a looooooooooong time before getting a positive response?

I think you should drop by or phone them. It could be they haven't decided yet and then you will know if you are still on the short list. But US employers are terribly terribly rude about not letting you know the result. It could be they have moved on. At least if they have you will know.

UGH, you might be right. I just HATE following up, especially when they already said they'd call me. *sigh*

Well, I am going to Toronto for a week in a couple of days, so I will follow up when I return. :(

Yea I thought I was perfect for a state position..perfect interview...they took there sweet ### time getting back to me with "overqualified"...

Couple things...your follow up thank you letter should be written right away and get to them 2-3 days tops following the interview..E-mail thank you letters are acceptable these days BTW...

If they just don't bother telling you..then you probably don't want to work at a place that unprofessional. 3 weeks is pushing it...but ya never know..

Best

Maybe you'll know when you've seen it

Follow up! Show them how much you want the job! And keep applying to lots of other places while you're at it... it does seem fishy that they were so quick to get you in for an interview, then nothing... if they really are that busy they might not have the time to notify all the candidates individually if they arte no longer being considered.

I think you should phone or send an e mail...

I think phoning is best because someone will talk to you that rather than an e mail you not to sure to get an answer...

So make a call asked to speak with the person nyou want to speak with told them that you are very interesting by the job...

Good luck ad hope you get the job...

I know that there s nothing whorse than gwaiting next ot the phone without it ringing... so phone now

Well, the company beat me to it. I just got a call saying I did not get the position.

However, she went out of her way to say that it had NOTHING to do with my qualifications which she thinks are "fabulous" and she has "no doubt" that people in DC will be chomping at the bit to get me and that I'll have a job in no time.

I asked her for some feedback about my interviewing style, and she said I interview very well and everyone was very enthusiastic about me, that it was a very hard decision but they just found a more appropriate candidate.

Oh well....at least she did call me and talk to me in person, and she apologized for taking so long to do so, she had to be out of town unexpectedly. I at least have the answer now and I can move on to other things. I applied for two other things today, and am still waiting to hear back from two others (one of which is very institutional and famous for being slow), so I'll try to stay positive, even though I'm kind of down because I really liked the idea of that job. I am a firm believer in what will be will be.

Good luck on the job search, Torontonian, and keep moving forward. If people don't call back, just leave it alone. You have more important things to do than track them down. I hate "following up," except to thank people right away. And I hang up on people who call and announce they're following up because I feel pressured and offended. Guess I picked up some politeness when I lived in T.O for many years. Hope you find the job prospects in the States a lot more interesting.

I agree, if you didn't get this job, then there will be another better job in your future! I was rejected several times for jobs, and ended up with a much better job than anything else I interviewed for.

P.S. I'm going to Toronto too, this weekend and I'm very excited!! I miss it!!
