co-sponsor's involvement

can anyone tell me what the co-sponsor needs to do other than the paperwork? will they be contacted directly for any reason? or need to send more information at any time?

I'm a student who will be graduating soon... I have a very good job now which places me above the poverty line and I have an employer's letter showing this income, but I'm worried my tax returns don't show enough income due to this being a recent job as I was student for the past three years.

I was going to ask my sister to be a co-sponsor just to avoid any problems, but before I do I want to make sure I can explain to her what she's signing on for. Think its reasonable for me to reassure her that she won't need to do anything else?

Thanks!

americangrl,

If the financial documentation submitted is sufficient and satisfactory there should be no need to contact a proposed sponsor. If it's insufficient or unsatisfactory then there may be a request to remedy the deficiency or there may be outright rejection of the sponsor depending on what the deficiency is.

If there is insufficient evidence, they will notify you in the form of an RFE. Your sister can look at it as like a co-signer on a car loan. If she is certain you (and your fiance) will be able to afford your own expences, she will have nothing to worry about.
