I was told that just in case the NOA does not arrive in time when we file an I-751 (Removal of Conditions) before the green card expires, how do we go about getting the restrictions removed from the SS card? Was told we are supposed to go to the local SSA office and apply for one.

Is that the process?

How long does it take to get a SS card without restrictions? We have 30 days to go until the green card expires and my husband needs to be able to continue to work, as he is the primary breadwinner in our family...

Are you sure you have a restricted social security card? It will say it on there if you do.

We applied for Andres SSN with his green card and they did not restrict the SSN.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You go to SSA office with the SS Card, and valid green-card, and apply for an un-restricted card.

You need to go to your local SSA office and apply to have the restrictions removed... if your SSN Card says "Valid Only With DHS

Authorization." then you have a restricted card and need to get the restriction removed, you need to do this as soon as you can or ten may refuse given that the greencard is about to expire...

Okay, so we can get the restrictions removed while in process of applying for I-751, removal of conditions? It doesn't cost anything to remove restrictions from an SS card?

Depends on how long it takes SSA to verify his status. SSA will not issue a card once status is within 14 days of expiring and they still will not issued the card if you applied before the 14 day period and enter it while waiting for status to be verified.

Once again DO NOT DO NOT let them take the old SSN card until he gets the new one.

2. Card Returned With Request For Replacement Card or New SSN

If the applicant has a card and requests a replacement card (duplicate or corrected) or a new SSN:

-- Ask the applicant to return the old SSN card. (If the applicant does not have the card with him or her, remind the

applicant to return the old card to SSA for destruction or to keep the old card in a secure place [not in a wallet or

purse]).

NOTE: Do not forcefully confiscate the SSN card if the applicant refuses to relinquish it. Similarly, return the old SSN card if the applicant requests that it be given back.
