You get jealous of your American husband because he's watching TV?

You better get used to it sister. American men are born with a remote control in their hand.

There is such a thing as a "healthy amount" of jealousy. Perhaps that doesn't immediately make sense, since when people hear the word "jealously" they tend to think of someone going psycho, such as Glenn Close's character in Fatal Attraction but that's rarely the case. It does -- and can -- happen, but it's not the norm.

What I mean by a "healthy amount" is it'd be normal to be jealous if your wife or husband were spending an inordinate amount of time with a member of the opposite sex in a non-business or family-related capacity and the two were quite visibly flirting. While this wouldn't have to mean anything adulterous was going on, it would naturally seem threatening to most spouses and to be honest, it should. There's nothing wrong with your wife or husband having friends of the opposite sex, but there's a difference between having a friend or two and spending most of your free time with that person and playing the sort of touchy-feely games usually reserved for someone you're romantically/sexually interested in.

Obviously jealousy can be a bad thing, since it can be seen in situations when there's absolutely no threat to someone's relationship at all. However, I would say that half the time, these cases are misunderstandings between husband and wife (or boyfriend and girlfriend) due to lack of communication somewhere. One person knows what they're doing is harmless so they automatically assume the other person will know that too, but that isn't always the case. It might be better to discuss things in order to avoid trouble down the line.

Right. My view is you won't change his behavior, especially if you get PO'd about it.

I thought you wanted to have an open discussion.

My bad.

Because I've lived here all my life and practically every married American guy I know has the ability to completely 'zone out' in front of the tube.

And because I was married for 26 years to one of them.

And because my UK husband isn't addicted to the TV.

Any more questions?

oh this thread has legs...

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Why did you start this thread anyway?

All I'm saying to you is this.....lots of guys do this. It's so prevalant that American wives JOKE about it. It can be a problem in some marriages, but most men don't take it to the extreme. So in other words - IT'S NORMAL.

But you say it makes you mad. I'm trying to tell you it's not worth getting mad over.
