Wow I just read this..........So many times I have traveled the roads between Cairo and Alexandria and Ahmed too. We are lucky we did not get in a horrible crash like this.

I remember my first trip to Egypt.....I told Ahmed that crossing the road was like playing the game Frogger on playstation. I am not sure how many of you know what frogger is.....but if you do you know exactly what I am talking about.

My heart goes out to all the families who suffered the loss of a loved one......May God comfort them and give them peace.

Traffic Accident Kills 23 in Egypt

By SALAH NASRAWI – 1 day ago

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) — Twenty-three people, mostly policemen, were killed Sunday when their vehicle smashed into a truck on the highway between Cairo and Alexandria, police said.

Fifteen people were declared dead at the scene of the crash, while eight others died from their injuries after they reached the hospital, said the police official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media.

At least 12 others were injured in the crash, which occurred shortly after nightfall on the main highway linking the Egyptian capital with the northern city on the Mediterranean coast, the official said.

The policemen were on their way back from a camp near Cairo when their vehicle ran into a truck, the official said. It was not immediately clear what caused the crash.

Road accidents are very common in Egypt due to bad roads and poor enforcement of traffic laws. Police estimate road accidents kill about 6,000 people annually.

:(

Unfortunate, but I'm not surprised.

I'm sure we're all familiar with the driving out there ...

BTW: Syria - they have highways - you know - 4 lane highways like in the USA - but ... with no divider, and no lines.

Go figure.

The moral of my story: Stick with someone who matches your own culture.

( This coming from an Arab who married an Arab from overseas... go figure. )

:wow: just so sad and unnecessary.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Even though the driving is crazy there we have an average of over 42,000 deaths in the US from car accidents. So although they do have the frogger caos, it is still safer there than here. We have about 250 million people so if you compare that to their population of 70 million we have an average of about 14000 deaths per 70million people.

So yes its sad, but we are supposed to be organized and we still have more.

Passage Revelation 19:11:

11And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

"satan is real and he's playing for keeps
God is realer and we are His sheep
which side are you on, CHOOSE, start moving your feet
choose JESUS and have ETERNAL PEACE" by GOD to me on 9/26/10 about 2am
Thank you Jesus!!!!

Okay on the frogger side of this conversation..................I love the game too. I play it on my playstation 2 and I have the playsation 1 version too. But seriously that is what crossing the road in Alexandria and Cairo Egypt reminds me of.

I almost got hit by a car in Cairo crossing the road when I visited in June......Mr. Mohammed (our Driver and Ahmed's Friend )crossed so I followed him........the car was speeding so fast........had to sreech it's tires to stop.......Ahmed was so upset with me.........he said his heart went to his feet and for me to never do that again. After that he would put himself on whichever side the traffic was coming from and made me hold his arm. Anyway, I am alive thank god and nothing happened all was fine. But really really reminded me of frogger....where the frog tries to cross without geting squashed (killed).
