OK everyone, so I guess the baby corner is good enough.

I think the pregnancy and children etc. forum does warrant a little more individual attention here on VJ because every child born to us is a little different than the children on pregnancy websites. We have special circumstances. Animal forums, political forums etc. aren't affected the same way children between foreign spouses/USCs are.

Good luck to all with little tykes now, and those trying!

I hope this won't be taken as a challenge of what you are saying, but I'm curious. How are children born to foreign/US couples any different than children born to other couples?

I'll give my .02 since I agreed with it.

-two different people with two completely different cultures jointly raising a baby are bound to have conflicts. I know D and I have talked about things like should we circumsize our boy (providing we have one, lol), is guiness really acceptable as something to drink when I fall preggers...these are just two off the top of my head. But each of us have a different answer to these two questions because of prevelant opinion in our respective countries., and I don't even think the US/UK connection is the best indicator of differences, since we're quite similar to each other. Other couples might face more challenging disagreements.....What is customary in one part of the world may not be customary in another.

-Will the parents pursue dual citizenship for the child? Will extended family members (grandparents in other countries) expect to have the child over for extended periods of time, to learn half his/her roots? Bilingual couples: how early do you teach a child a second language, if at all? Would the non-USC parent want to seek out other parents of his/her nationality, so that the child has exposure to his/her second nationality? What religion will the child be?

And yes, I think two USCs can face the same problems, if the backgrounds are different. But it all stems back to the joining of two cultures. I'm sure these aren't the only ones, but that's all I can come up with atm. Perhaps it falls under 'children' rather than 'pregnancy/baby', but I can see a forum like this being of interest to people going through it.

My first response to this is to say NO WAY! Why should they need a seperate forum just to talk about babies... but when I think about it I think it does have a place here, but not just for the new parent set. I'd call it 'the International Family' and use it to talk about relationships etc... it could gather together the interpersonal relationship-type threads that scatter over the board. And that way it applies to more people...
