Completing and submitting all k1 paperwork on your own without attorney or consultation

Has anyone out here completed and submitted all k1 paperwork on your own without the help of an immigration lawyer or outside service? I'm wondering, because as I follow the instructions on the government website, I'm finding it a bit tricky and complicated. But, I do feel confident that I can get this done the right way too. I'd like to hear what others have done. I just want this to work out right:)

thanks, Mike

A large majority of VJ members did not use an attorney.

If you're detail oriented and willing to study the process using the Guides here and the forums, you probably don't need to hire an attorney. You might want to have at least a brief consultation with a immigration attorney particularly if there's anything out of the ordinary about your case.

Having a lawyer is overrated...

It's easy to fulfill requirements by yourself, you can save lots of monies and it's a pretty straight forward process.

Ours had been approved without the help of a lawyer within 43 days.

Ditto that... And there's also been plenty of horror stories about lawyers majorly screwing up people's cases, so don't assume that if someone has a title of "lawyer", they are the complete experts!! If you decide to go for a lawyer, try to ask around to get the number of a good one..

If your case isn't extra complex, though, you'd be paying someone $2000 (or so) to do nothing more than fill out some paperwork and mail it for you. Consultations are often good if you have particular questions, but in most cases, you can fill out the forms yourself. (just read and follow directions)

Good luck with whatever you decide

My suggestions;

1. Plan time to do the paperwork.

2. triple check all your paperwork

3. Follow guidelines here in Visa Journey EXACT

4. As questions here on VJ when you don't understand.

You follow these steps and are willing to put forth the effort. No attorney is needed.

Good luck.

Dave is a wise man, but he forgot the part about paper-clipping the hundred-dollar bills in the petition to bribe the adjudicator...

If you have a rather easy case (e.g. not been married before, no children etc.) you won't need an attorney. Even if you have been married before and do have children, you can still do it without an attorney. A lot of questions repeat themselves and once you are in it...it's not hard at all.

good luck.
