cbarrosmostafa did a K-3 through Egypt, but she's on a break from the forum right now.

Looking at her timeline, it looks like they sent in packet 3 on September 11, 2005, and her husband was interviewed November 1, 2005. But, then they were on administrative review for 4 1/2 months. Almost everyone in the middle east goes through admin review (ar) for a few weeks to a few months after the interview is complete.

Forgot to add, we managed to pity the embassy into giving us an interview one week after we turned in packet 3 because of all of their screw ups. First, TNT (the courier service the consulate uses) couldn't find my husband's mailing address. So, instead of calling him up or emailing and asking how to find it, they just sit on it! He called after weeks and they said, oops, sorry bout that and sent it again, and low and behold, they found it this time.

Then, I went to Egypt in June last year (it had been a year and a half since I saw my husband and I couldn't wait for the visa. Missed him sooooo much). While there, we finished filling out all of the packet 3 forms, checked, double checked, triple checked, checked 100 times at least that everything was there and set it off via TNT to the consulate. Now, we were staying a mear 10 minute walk from the consulate, but no, we had to spend 40 LE on the stupid courier. So, 3 days later, his friend from his hometown (we stayed in Cairo, his mailing/home addresses are in Mahalla) called and said we got a packet from the embassy. We were so jazzed and couldn't believe it was processed so quickly. So, his friend took the train down to Cairo to deliver the packet to us.

But, alas, it was too good to be true. In the packet were all of our papers we sent, with a form letter on top saying our packet had been rejected for the following reason: with a check next to missed birth certificate. We shuffled through the packet, and low and behold, they sent us back his damned birth certificate! It was right there in the bloody package.

So, I was steamed. We sent it back with a note saying the BC was included the first time. Paid another 40 LE.

I was so furious, because DH insisted on paying for all of the parts of the visa process in Egypt, so he paid the courier again. As I'm sure everyone knows, the wages in the ME aren't the best, and 40 LE is a lot of money.

So, I wrote an email to the embassy asking for a refund, but uh, not that politely. After I sent it, I felt rather stupid, and worried I ruined our visa chances. But, the embassy emailed back and said they scheduled an interview for my husband on the 7th of July. Yaaay, quick interview.

But still, too good to be true. He didn't receive any letters in the mail, so on the 7th, he printed out the email and presented himself at the embassy. Not suprisingly, no one knew anything about an apointment. So, he sat there for hours and hours and hours waiting for someone to find his file and interview him. The interview was relatively smooth, and then we were put on AR for a month and a half.

But, in the end, he's here, and we're happy (most of the time).

And that's my egyptian consulate story. Whew.

Almost everyone in the middle east goes through admin review (ar) for a few weeks to a few months after the interview is complete.

Usually it's the Middle Eastern and Muslim men who face extended ARs. Often, women from the same countries do not face such a rigorous security review, but are granted their visas on the same day. Of course I can't remember any other females going through Egypt, so maybe things are different there.

Wish you the best, Salwapasserby ! (Your pics are wonderful, by the way !)
