Hello all:

Before I post my question I just want to thank anyone associated with keeping this site going and to anyone that has helped us with info thus far.

Topic 1: My bio appt. letters have different names for my wife. One has her "first name, middle name, maiden name", the other has "first, middle, married". Her passport and drivers license has "first, maiden-married". USCIS said they could put another service request in to change the name in the system. The people at the ASC Bio appt. said that I should just wait for the interview and they can change it to whatever we want it to be.

Question 1: Should I just do the service request and have the name changed to "first, middle, married" and then change her passport and drivers license to reflect the same?

Question 2: Why do some people's cases get transferred and some do not? Does a transfer have an effect on the processing time?

Thanks again!

Hi mconfes,

your wife's green card should be issued to the name you indicated when you filled out the I-485. To have a new DL issued to a new name she has to do that with your DMV, if she has a valid state license then she just needs to look up your local office's requirements for name change (Google "DPS + (your state)" and browse your local DMV info on their website).

Since she'll have her home country's passport, (until and if she chooses to apply for US citizenship) the rules for changing her name in the passport differ from one country to the other. In my case, I

*Filled out the I-485 with my married name. GC was issued to this name. So was my SSN and drivers license.

*For my passport (Argentina), I can only choose to use my maiden name or the spanish married name form (first name)+(maiden name)+ de (married name)

Regarding transfers...I don't think any of us know why the cases get transferred, it seems to be random. Most cases that get transferred to CSC are approved without an interview so that's good, but AOS timelines are usually unpredictable.

Good luck!

Saludos,

Caro
