Yahoo messenger? You would need something substantial, such as someone making terrorist threats and opening an investigation for law enforcement to backtrack them. Even then, if it isn't a national security issue I doubt they will take random threats from people seriously - the resource requirements are high.

They can pull the IP address and go backwards to their ISP, however there could be other factors such as privacy web sites who try to mask the routes from the real source.

If it is just someone sending random sexual or annoying messages, maybe you could just block their ID.

Thanks for answer.. its more than that annoying, This person knew some personal infos about me and my husband.. So its a person known to both of us.. i dont think its a spam or something... I have ignored already the id.. I just want a peace of mind who the person doing this to us.. I hope there's a way to trace.. :(

I have been in the same position while we were still in the process of completing the K-1 visa. We were still apart then and something like that really put so much pressure in the relationship. I have been slandered by an unknown person by sending messages & false accusations about me to my fiance (now my hubby) and even sent emails, YM messages, even posted a my space blog, just to destroy our relationship. And even threatened me before I took my interview. I really couldn't understand why people couldn't be happy with other's people's happiness. Anyway, to make the long story short, I referred that case to my lawyer friend and he said that it was hard to prove something like that without substantial evidence. So, he advised me to just ignore it and truly the person stopped from sending messages and always remember that people like that won't succeed. For as long as your love is strong enough to withstand the test then you will stay together forever.

Thank you.. Your statement, helps to comfort me.. Even how much I wanted to share what are those offline messages im getting, i think its not better to air here..

But its this person say stuff against me, against my husband, against "ALL" Filipinos.. :crying:

It's easy enough if you have a web server you control.

Then you can "trick" the person that's harassing you into "checking out some pics" (for example)

and capture their IP address.

Once you have their IP, all you have to do is a whois lookup to see who owns the IP block

his IP belongs to and go after the ISP.

Generally you would need a subpoena to get the subscriber information from the ISP, but there

are ways around it.

hello, thanks.. i dont think i know how to do that.. im only getting offline.. I think i will just edit my infos and my husband infos. and hide some identities..

During an active chat you can trace the originating IP from a DOS command. Offline messages are nearly impossible. Did the person send you an IM message or an email. If you have an email then yes it can be traced to the end users IP.

Just curious how can you possibly trace the end users IP? I was in the same position with the OP before but I kept all the emails from that unknown person and yes it is not safe to post personal info at my space because I believe that person got the info of my hubby's family through my space.I even reported that my space profile but got no reply from my space management. But now, i care less about it after all we are now happily married and enjoying our life together.

Email messages have a header that tells you where the message came from. For an example

of what a message header looks like, click here.

Granted, the header can be easily faked (as most SMTP servers have no way of authenticating

their clients), but if the message was sent from a "web mail" account, such as Yahoo or Hotmail,

the original "Received: from" part of the header should be intact.

The very first "Received: from" will tell you the IP address of the computer the message was

sent from.

:) You could delete it, you'd just have to go to those websites and update your information, saying you want notification at your new address.

Do whatever you think is best!!

Good Luck!
