So, I booked my appointment to have my medical on Wednesday, when I got Packet 3. It was scheduled for March the 27th. I just got a message this morning that the appointment wasn't going to be able to happen that day. I phoned back and she said that he's not doing Immigration medicals anymore. They apparently just got word today! What the heck does that mean? All of a sudden the US decides that he can't do them anymore?! ARGHH! So now I'm going to have to travel for my medical. ~sighs~ I know that many of you already travel for your medicals, but man alive, this is NOT good. I guess I'll try to phone Vancouver and see if they have someone else set up here in Edmonton or if Calgary/Vancouver is the only option!

I swear, this whole process sucks if this is true. Cause I already have to travel to MTL for a 5 minute interview, and now will have to go to Calgary for a med exam. Ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully there is another doc in town that does these exams.

Well, Vancouver said that if there's going to be a replacement here in Edmonton, it will be posted soon. Otherwise, we're SOL. I've gone about trying to schedule one for Calgary just in case.

Sorry about Edmonton!! Try and schedule it when the Flames are playing, so you can see some real hockey!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Sucks for you! I cannot believe that, on such short notice. Hopefully you can get in quickly in Calgary.

As for a Flamers game, I'd rather suck on toilet plumbing after someone's ate Mexican.

Chana has had so many bad reviews that he must be a real SOB. :crying:

As for hockey, I don't think that they play professional hockey in Alberta. Oilers? NFL team, they played in the Astrodome in Houston before the team moved to Tennessee, powder blue uniforms. :innocent: The Flames? Don't they play at the Omni in Atlanta.

BTW, the Maple Laffs have been playing like sh*t (what else is new) and they still have more points than the Oilers and the Flames, PULEEEZE they've made more first-round exits than the Sens.

That really sucks about Chana. Maybe they will find a better, more competent Doctors office to deal with in Edmonton. With the handfuls of cash that Chana's office was getting for about 20 minutes of time- you would have thought they would have been a little nicer.

Oh well. I emailed the office in Vancouver and it looks like I'm going to have my medical done there. They're really good about getting people in on short notice, and they give you the results the same day. Looks like we'll just have to make a mini-vacation out of it! That's what my sweetie said! :P Getting the medical done the day before the interview makes me a little nervous, but I'm perfectly healthy so I've got nothing to worry about!

But, at the same time, it sucks that there's no doctor in Edmonton anymore. I feel for all of the people who live north of Edmonton and will now have to drive all the way to Calgary!

ya it does sort of suck when one is in a major city and still have to travel!! But some people that live in remote places most likely have to travel a lot more.

Ya its nice to see the Dr in VAn accommodate you. There have been a few other VJers t that did the exact same thing that ur doing it it worked out for them!! For me it would be too risky, lol Murphys law can always take place, if something can go wrong it will!! BUT in reality its not that big of a deal if something doesn't go as planned, as most likely they would just hold the visa until you provided the medical results!. Cheers

That's the last time I freebase ovaltine. After I posted I realized that the sentence could be read as indicating that the Flames have less points than the Laffs which is not true. The Flames have only 8 points more than the Laffs. The crappy does-anybody-know-how-to-play-defence Laffs. The if-it-wasn't-for-Toskala-how-much-did-we-give-up-for-Raycroft-again Laffs. The-what-do-you-mean-the-Flyers-are-ahead-of-us-in-the-conference Laffs. I stand by the rest of my statement though. You are quite correct about the examinations being instant moneymakers. :crying:

ATeam you've got the right mentality, roll with the process and you'll do fine. Enjoy your mini-vacation!!!
