Using common sense (which concerning Uncle Sam is probably a mistake) it seems that once the case leaves the NVC my wife should get to her interview faster than with K-3 because all the civil documents are already submitted (police report, birth and marriage certs. etc). All she has to bring is her passport, photos, proof of marriage, and medical stuff to the interview.

I know each consulate is different (ours is Moscow) but am i right in my thinking that with CR-1 my wife should get an interview date quicker after the paperwork leaves the NVC than with K-3?

Unfortunately no, you are not right. K3 cases have their second and usually final name check during their short stay at NVC. CR1 cases have that name check ordered after the case arrives on station abroad. Consulate wait until that is complete and then generally give a lower priority to appointment scheduling than for the K3.

I'd say NVC out to interview probably averages a 30 to 60 days longer for the CR1 case than for K3.

As you are one of the November filers which got approved from VSC (approved in January) ..... can you let us know if you did something special ? .... did you manage to get one of the rare expedites ? .... I've been looking into expedites, and have a few things on the list, but am not sure whether they bother to approve on expedite unless someone's dying. If you got one for another reason than what I just mentioned, can you give us a clue please ? .... as it may help others.

Congratulations on your approval ..... I hope the next stages are just as quick (F)

No expedite and I've never called the USCIS. Maybe that's the trick. :) But I wanted a K-3 which was canceled...so I'm not that thrilled at this point with the way the I-130 drags along for months.

I see. Thanks.
