How picky is the USCIS on passport photo specs?

My fiancee had her passport photos taken earlier this week and sent them to me. I got them yesterday and they follow the 2x2 specification and everything looks fine EXCEPT that the camera was probably too close....so its more of a headshot (not showing as much shoulders..if that makes any sense) and doesn't look exactly like the examples in the passport spec guidelines.

So my question is...how picky is the USCIS on these passport photos? Are they going to RFE me on this? Anyone else come across a similar situation?

Bonus question - what do they use these pictures for anyways? Is this going on some sort of ID or do they just want a picture of the person?

Not too picky at the USCIS stage, they will need to better later for the consulate when they ask for them again.

When we sent in passport photos with our I-129F, my Yu's photo was 2"x1.5", and had no problem.

I would get them retaken, at least for the consulate stage, and have them handy just in case of an RFE.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

It depends on which stage your talking about. For our G-325 photos I just cropped and resized photos of us as best I could. I printed them at walmart using their online wallet size photo option. I think I could have just printed them out on the computer.

During the interview phase, my hubby had to have passport size photos. He went to a photo shop and got them done.

I don't know what they want to photos for. The only photos that get used are the ones from biometrics appointment (for your green card and work permit) and the ones you submit for your advance parole/travel document.

I told my fiancee in Mexico to take the passport sized photo and send it to me in the mail. I told her the dimensions. When I received her pictures in the mail the dimensions were WAY OFF. It was not a 2x2 square, it looked like a rectangle but I forget the exact measurements. Anyways, I took that photo and got it made into a 2x2 photo but when I did that it really darkened her skin. I sent both photos in and we were approved no problem. For the actual visa interview I would make sure that the photos are exactly what they ask for but apparently it doesn't matter much the first time around.

I used a scissor and cut the passport photo from dye sublimation photo printer (Kodak). The sides was crooked, but, they still accepted it. Weird.

Yeah, this is just for the g-325a stage. I'll be sure to have her get new pictures taken that match the specs exactly when we get further along in the process. Thanks everyone for the responses!

huh?

at my interview they 'scanned' (ie not in the usual way, on a glass plate, but by holding it under a small machine of some sort - a bit like a barcode scanner) the photo I'd brought with me, and that photo ended up, in black and white, on my visa; printed in there as part of the whole thing

so i's sort of, like, necessary, and definitely does get used, in a fairly integral way ;)

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.
