I'm from the USA and in Jan I came to Egypt to marry my boyfriend, but at that time, the only marriage avaliable to us was an Orfi marriage. Egypt and USA had problems conerning the US agreeing to american citizens marrying. This has changed and we can now get married the proper way. I have lived with him since Jan, but I made a short trip back to USA and I must remain in Egypt for 6 months before filing with the Consular here. I need to know if it would be easier for me to file here and marry him or go back to the states and file for fiancee? I do not work, but I do have a home for us to live and some savings. My dad has agreed to sponsor my husband, but will this be enough? Also, do they interview the sponosors in person or over the phone? Or is the papers they fill out enough? It's possible I might have a promise of a job when i return to the USA and can obtain verification to that. Thankyou for any help. :)

As I understand it, the Orfi marriage is not legally recognized (someone correct me if I am wrong). In that case, you can either do the fiance visa (which you can file right away) or the spousal visa. You may want to take a look at the timelines for Egypt to see what you think is best.

Also, do they interview the sponosors in person or over the phone? Or is the papers they fill out enough? The primary sponsor and the cosponsor both fill out the I-134 (for K visas) or I-864 (for CR1/IR1). No interview involved.

Whether you marry in Egypt or not, returning home will save you the six month wait. If you marry and file with the Consulate in Egypt it will not be for a K3 visa. It would be for a CR1.

If your dad qualifies as a sponsor, that's usually good enough but you file your own affidavit of support as well.

A promise of a job is better than nothing but not enough to substitute for a qualified sponsor.
