Carpal Tunnel

I've had carpal tunnel for 4-5yrs and I've had cortisone injections in my wrists twice but the last time was almost 3yrs ago. The past few weeks my hands (mainly the left one) have been going crazy twitching to the point where I can't stop it and it is very painful. I think I posted a few weeks ago that I dropped a massive thing of eggs down my stairs because my hand just stopped working and I couldn't grip the bowl they were in. At the beginning of this week my thumb on my left hand started twitching uncontrollably. It's so freaking painful. My whole forearm twitches almost like a muscle spasm down by my wrist. I stopped the doctor for a second to show him because he was super busy when I went in to weigh today and I said I have a question about my carpal tunnel look at my thumb. He said "wow that is really weird". I'm getting cortisone shots on Monday but I was just curious if anyone else has had this problem with carpal tunnel before OR if anyone thinks it could be something else?

I have had it for 20 years, a direct result of waitressing to pay my way through college. It doesn't get any better, you just learn to adjust. But, I can't tell you how many dishes I have dropped because you just cant feel your hands anymore or control how tight you can hold things.

Has your doctor discuss carpal tunnel release surgery with you? I only ask because I work for an insurance company, where CTS is common for certain types of occupations. Typically when cortisone injections, splinting and physical therapy has been exhausted the physician recommends the surgery. I've heard of really great results. Might be something that you want to discuss with your doc. I live in Canada, so I just assume that its available in the States too (no reason why it wouldn't be).

Good luck!

Sorry to hear you are having such problems. I have a mild form that reoccurs if I am not careful, but I sleep with splinted supports on my wrists and that seems to be all I need right now. I hope the cortisone shot helps. There is surgery available. I did have a nerve path induction exam last year to determine the extent of the injury - you might want to consider that as the next diagnostic step. It is done by a neurologist. Good luck.

I spent 16 years as a Hairstylist and surprisingly I didn't have any CT problems. I have noticed a problem with my right forearm lately though- I type up all my husbands chapter notes for the classes he teaches and my arm gets numb and sore from that. I'm not sure if it is a CT problem or a circulation problem.

I'm developing it. I'm actually surprised it's taken me this long to get it. I've always worked with my hands, typing, counting money, etc. My right hand is just now beginning to show signs of it. I can't grip things very long at all with it. It's really quite frustrating when your hands don't do what you want them to.

Just couldn't stay my @ss away!

I have a mild form of CTS, mainly due to too much time spent on the computer (both at work and at home). Thankfully it hasn't progressed far enough for me to totally lose feeling or drop things. But sometimes the pain can be so bad that I don't want to use my hand for a while.

I hope your doctor can help you find a way to ease your CTS Amber. (F)
