A very serious egg thread

I'm not an egg consumer, I buy them every 3 months for a recipe and then they stay in my fridge forever. But I'm considering my options to increase my protein intake (no, hubster, you can't help ) and I think I'll start eating egg whites.

Any ideas on what to do with the yolks? I really hate wasting food.

They're evidently good for thickening sauces... haven't tried it but maybe you could experiment and post an update! Also sauces like hollandaise and aioli. Beyond sauces I'm not sure...

Yeah, but I'm talking about like eating 24 egg whites / week, what to do with so many egg yolks?

You can also freeze them.... but then you'll end up with a freezer full of the things...

Make ice cream .... or fresh pasta .... both use a lot of egg yolks.

I hardly eat pasta and I like to buy ice cream. Plus the reason I don't want to eat the yolks is because I wanna get lean and maximize my work out. It'll break the purpose you know? If I bake stuff with egg yolks.

I don't know. It doesn't seem like keeping them in the freezer's too great. I mean some, sure, but soon you'd just have like...900 egg yolks xD I would eat at least one yolk in with my egg whites though, just egg whites is so sad I'd feel so weird just cracking open like four eggs a morning and just taking out the whites, but I've started to really love eggs so I'm having to really watch it xD

I'm thinking like...wildlife. Do you have a big yard? Maybe there's something you can do with them, like...glaze a pinecone with egg yolk and seeds or something for the squirrels. But if birds get it then it's almost cannibalism or like baby-eating for them and maybe squirrels aren't meant to have an almost meat? I have no idea ...You could take up painting. Didn't a lot of painters glaze their paintings with eggs for some reason? But I think they just used the egg whites, too.

You're probably just gonna have to toss them I don't know. And eggs aren't as cheap as they used to be.

I really quite like the carton no cholesterol egg stuff, feels a lot less wasteful and convenient but they're so expensive It's the equivalent of 8 eggs for like $2.50 but I think you can get a double carton 16 eggs for like $4, at least where I live. And they taste better than just egg whites would

Why don't you just buy egg whites without the yokes?

I was about to add the same thing. Nessa you can buy egg whites in cartons next to the egg beaters in the grocery store. Normally they're next to or above the regular eggs. I think they have 30 calories per 1/4 cup. I usually have 1/2 cup 3-4 times a week with breakfast.
