I see that many of you state that you receive email updates. I am about to file my I-130 and G325's and would like to sign up for this. Is there another form or somewhere I can sign up?

Thanks,

You need to sign up at USCIS website to get automatic updates. You can do that, once you receive your first notice I-797C, as you will need the receipt number to register.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

Filed: Citizen (apr) Country: China

Only after you get receipt notice in the mail with case number can you do this. Note sometimes you can get the case number of the pack side of the personal check used to pay the fee.

No. There is no case number in USCIS receipt. It is called receipt number. NVC assigns case number, once the case forwards to NVC from USCIS after the approval. One wil need USCIS receipt number from initial notice, I-797C in order to register with USCIS website to see automatic updates in the USCIS website and even to get email notification from USCIS (in case of RFE, approvals, etc).

Yes, it can be very difficult to read however. There will be a WAC (for CSC) or EAC (for Vermont) number printed on the back of your cancelled check. The number will be like WAC-08-XXXXXXX. For some people, they still won't see their cases online for a couple weeks after receiving their NOA-1 as well.

Hope that helps.

**exactly as described. thank you!

i might add, that the WAC number on the back of the cashed check was different

by one digit from the actual NOA-1 letter. (I happened to come home from work

and find it in the mail the same day I found the check image.) The receipt number

on the image ends in "1" while the actual NOA-1 letter ends in "2". Once I entered

it online it showed in the CRIS system completely updated.

Hope that helps others...

Perhaps, using the WAC or EAC number from the I-797C notice is a better choice, as reading them from the cancelled check can be hard.

Yes it will be on the back side of the check. It may be un-readable though, and in that case you will have to wait for the NOA1 letter to arrive in the mail.

The term Receipt number and Case number tend to be used interchangeable, USCIS is working on your "CASE" or Petition.

Yes, USCIS does work on "case." Each petition is a "case" itself. But when you mention case number specifically, it can create confusion for someone who may desperately look for a case number in USCIS's notice of action, I-797C in vain, as the notice does not mention any case number. It only mentions a USCIS receipt number with WAC or EAC.
