Hello,

I'm writing to find out if anyone who recently (March 2008) went through the US consulate in Amsterdam could tell me what the vaccination requirements are before the K1 will be issued. Does the Hepatitis B vaccine series have to be complete (3 shots in 6 months) before the consulate will approve the K1 or can this be done once he gets to the US? We really don't want to have to postpone the visa interview for 6 months just to get some shots. Any information on this would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

"K" visas do not have a vaccination requirement... they can be postponed until adjustment of status application

YMMV

Correct

Vaccination Requirements

United States immigration law requires immigrant visa applicants to obtain certain vaccinations prior to the issuance of an immigrant visa. Panel physicians who conduct medical examinations of immigrant visa applicants are required to verify that immigrant visa applicants have met the vaccination requirements. See IV Vaccination Requirements for the list of required vaccinations and additional information.

As a fiancé(e), you are not required to fulfill this requirement at the time of your medical examination for a fiancé(e) visa. However, you may want to do so. These vaccinations are required when you adjust status following your marriage.

I really wish we could pin this somewhere for everyone to see....

SOME EMBASSIES ARE NOW MAKING THE VACCINATIONS A REQUIREMENT PRIOR TO K1 ISSUANCE.

We need to stop painting every embassy with the same brush. I know of at least 3 embassies who require this. Although this is the first european one i've seen - could be a trend?

OP, as long as you have started the 3 shot course of HepB, you can complete the rest after arrival in the USA.
