Lisa,

Uninterrupted travel means that you take 'the next plane out' from intermediate stops to continue the journey, you can't stop off somewhere enroute for a few weeks to take a vacation or such.

Yodrak

If it helps anyone living in a 3rd country, I had a reply from the consulate which Ill post below

Not True!!

You may return to Asia to close your business.

When issued, a K1 visa is valid for 6mths which means you must enter

the U.S. within 6mths of it's issuance.

You are able to enter the U.S. from anywhere with the world, with any

immigrant or K1 visa.

You do not have to enter from the country of issuance.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Visa Assistant

G'day Lisa,

You're welcome! I'm relieved you checked with your consulate and that they confirmed what I had said about the USA entry date being the important thing. I must admit I'd been certain of my facts until the omnipresent oracle Yodrak said I'd got it wrong again ...

Anyway ... :)

All the best for your convoluted journey over the next few months! (F)

Sheila, Thanks mate!!! actually I always check with the consulate, (just get sick of the generated reply " please refer to our website, you will find 95% of questions will be answered" NOT!!!! My questions are always extremely " grey ' areas!) so decided to try a post and went into a panic over diffrent advice.

Glad its all sorted out. thanks for the luck

Sheila and Lisa,

If you want legal advice consult an attorney, not a consular person. (Or me, for that matter.) As you say, Lisa, your question is a bit uncommon and it's not surprising that many people - even consular officers - are unaware of the correct answer.

See this post by a knowledgable, experienced, immigration attorney in the Usenet newsgroup < alt.visa.us.marriage-based >:

It says, in part, "There is venerable case law on this in regards to visas. The rule for

visas is that you must start an uninterrupted journey to the US before

the visa expires."

Yodrak,

I wasnt seeking LEGAL advice, as such. It would not have occured to me that the embassy office that issues the visa's and therefore its conditions, wouldn't know the answer. I only posted a question on the thread of the Vj member asking about his fiancee's timeline. When I read "uninterrrupted journey" that alarmed me, as Im not familiar with all the members, and there were so many posts, I was asking the question to anyone. I do not want you to think I asked you directly then shat on your advice . I thank both you and sheila for answering, it gave me two trains of thought when requesting info, from the embassy in Sydney. You were both helpful thanks, in two different areas. ( I wont bore you with the details)

Good news is, my ticket to the USA will be bought in Asia, when I return to tidy up my business affairs...and it will be a direct flight...so therefore uninterrupted. SO everyone's advice ties in together. I have 3 businesses in 3 countries. Believe me, Im too pragmatic and too old and too busy to be playing high school games of picking sides over who said what! Thanks again to you both for giving me the idea of what to ask for specifically.
