This may sound silly, and I think I already know the answer, but let's just say that I'm not 100% sure.

So, I was just thinking... since I am a canadian citizen, will I be able to use my expired passport to fly to Vancouver, and not be denied entry at the immigration (which is at the POE in YVR)?

I believe the airline may deny boarding a plane that flies internationally, but it is not a problem for domestic flights, so a flight to Seattle WA and then a trip north on the ground won't be a problem, the Canadian land POE has no problems using just the green-card for entry. From what I read for US passport holders International flights to Canada require passports and not the new passport cards so this may be the case for green-cards.

http://travel.state.gov/passport/ppt_card/ppt_card_3926.html

If you are able to board the international flight, then the Canadian POE should behave just like the land border crossing and accept the green-card.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

thanks for the input guys! i just emailed the consulate, and they pretty much said that the airline won't allow boarding w/o a valid passport. i guess the fastest way to do this is get it when i'm in vancouver. and yes, the only option i have now is to fly to seattle then drive up north <_<

Yeah, this is also what I'm going to do when I visit my family in Vancouver (and renew my passport while I'm there). Luckily I do have friends that I'm planning to visit in Seattle, so it's a bonus at least :D

Nini - Vancouver BC, Canada (she's the one who does the forum thing)

Bee - Devon PA, USA (he's the one who gave her the shiny ring)

Getting our sanity tested by bureaucracy since 2007.

Here we go again...

Removal of conditions @ VSC

9/4/2010 - sent!

9/14/2010 - NOA

it's just a pain having to drive up, especially w/ 3 small kids... and being pregnant! if it weren't for the wedding, and my son being the ring bearer, i would've just applied for my passport here... *sigh*

Canada Customs does NOT require you to have a passport to fly into Canada. The regulation is a US regulation that requires a person to have a passport to fly into the US. Hence therefore the airlines make sure you have a passport before they will board you on a flight destined to the US. Coming the other way, I do not see why the airline should be denying you (a Canadian) boarding a flight destined to Canada if you do not have a valid passport. As long as you have valid photo identification and proof of citizenship such as a birth certificate or citizenship card you should be allowed to fly into Canada. I would call the airline to confirm their policy. I do know there are Canadians that cross into the US over a land border with no passport (as one isn't required at land borders) and then have to fly back to Canada.
