Me and my wife have had longer than usual I-485 AOS process. Basically, we got married in May 2006, but I didn't send out the I-485 application until Aug 2006. OUr application got delayed because I used the wrong first name for my wife (long story, basically, I had read on this forum that you can "change" your name that your spouse wants to use in the U.S., but I guess the only allowable change is with last names (maiden to married last name) - not first names. I don't know why that didn't occur to me.). Anyhows, after several back an forths and a worthless InfoPass session, we finally got her biometrics taken (more than 1 year after I had started my application). In the past 2 months I also got a Request for Evidence saying that my financial situation was not sufficient enough (and it was a little on the week side when I applied in mid 2006). So, I sent them documents detailing my recent financial situation and holdings.

USCIS sent me an email a week or two ago saying that they received my evidence. Now, today, I get this email from USCIS:

"...The last processing action taken on your case

Receipt Number: MSCXXXXXXXXXX

Application Type: I485 , APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR

TO ADJUST STATUS

Current Status: Notice mailed welcoming the new permanent resident.

On March 12, 2008, we mailed you a notice that we had registered this

customer's new permanent resident status. Please follow any instructions

on the notice. Your new permanent resident card should be mailed

within 60 days following this registration or after you complete any ADIT

processing referred to in the welcome notice, whichever is later. If you

move before you get your new card call customer service. You can also

receive automatic e-mail updates as we process your case. Just follow

the link below to register.

..."

Can anyone help me interpret what this means? Does this mean that my wife will be receiving a conditional green card finally (or maybe even a "full" green card)? Note, we never had an i-485 AOS interview. Does anyone know what the "ADIT processing" they mention is about?

Also, if my wife does get the conditional green card - about the 2 year waiting period you need to wait until you can lift the "conditional" restrictions - when does that start counting from - from when we get approved for the conditional green card - or from when we first entered the U.S. and got married?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Your I-485 has been approved... If you receive the conditional card you can file to lift these conditions 90 days prior to the expiration of the card.

ADIT is essentially the same as biometrics... if that has been previoiusly done then you should receive a card production notice in a few days

From what I read in other threads, this means, your AOS is approved and I think you can expect your greencard in the mail soon. I am not sure what that ADIT process is they are talking about, but CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Thanks everyone so far with your responses. This website is fantastic and all of you on the forum are great. This website has helped clear up so much confusion about this very very frustrating process. It's been a bit over 1 1/2 years since we started applying and there have been times when this AOS process just drove me nuts, frustrated, depressed, everything. At times I would feel like I had sabotaged my wife's last 1 1/2 years due to my mistake in judgement (thinking that we could change her first name via this AOS process) that caused this great delay in the process.

Also, as I mentioned above, I had had an INFOpass session here in New York City early last year (to find out the status of my application and if there was anything I could do to help speed things up) and it was so so frustrating because the USCIS worker at the session didn't know how to advise on my unique problem and he kept on giving me canned answers and then got in my face when I kept on questioning him for specifics, specific definitions on certain matters, etc.. It was a ridiculous - he was purposely like saying things like "oh, you don't know about blah blah blah? pfffft!!..." I mean, what kind of attitude is that, high school? A poor attempt at covering the fact that you do not know the answer, so instead you try to turn the blame to me and focus on things I have never heard of? During that INFOpass session, I was almost ashamed at the treatment/serivce my own government was providing to me and my wife. But, I guess government is the biggest bureacracy of them all, so I really shouldn't expect too much out of it service wise.

Look, I don't want to complain too much about this, let's just say I give a great great thanks to all of you and for all your support. Any more comments anyone has on this topic will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, dealing with USCIS can be very very frustrating. Well, you won't have to deal with them for a while now...hopefully. All the best and congrats again!
