I don't believe in atheists

Hack - probably.

I agree with one thing, fundamentalism is dangerous regardless of which label it's attached to.

The arguments though are seriously flawed. Sin is not synomous with wrong. Sin is a product of religious belief and not all religions have a place for sin. Atheists can and do have a very strong sense of right and wrong without having the 'added value' that sin brings with it (and in fact many unnecessary complications that remove the clartiy from right or wrong in my opinion)

Atheism is not synonymous with hedonism. Atheists can and do sustain normal human relationships which are grounded in the belief that everyone's rights are respected, not just the self. Atheists don't justify everything on some belief in their own self worth.

Atheists are not Utopianists (does that word exist).

Steven Dawkins is not a dangerous Utopianist and to dismiss him as different (from the other two) just because he's British...that's just laughable.

I think the idea is to creat the impression that atheism and marxism are somehow interconnected and therefore dangerous. Back to the drawing board Mr Hedges.

I get his criticism of those writers - but I'm not convinced that they're at the fore of some sort of organised anti-religious movement.

I agree, and I agree with his asessment of Hitchens. As long as people know his name and buy his books, he doesn't care whether he's leading a anti-religion crusade or not. The bloke is just a flagrant self-publicist.

I'm guessing it involves a plague of something.

Interestingly, near death experiences do not necessarily produce religious belief and when they do, one has to conclude that to suddenly turn religious because one is about to die is rather sloppy reasoning.

We all know that one day we have to die - that's an incontrovertable fact. The fear of the process of death is natural but the fear of what happens once one is dead is really not.

I think since atheists don't have some fluffy idea(l) of where they are headed after death, there is no reason to all of the sudden "see the light". Rather it's the person of lapsed faith who may have some guilt thrown in there who will drop to their knees proclaiming all kinds of promises to God, if only God will save them now.

The cult of science. That is interesting.

Cultism is the problem then--doesn't matter if it is religious cults or scientific cults--anything that inhibits one from looking outside his world will lead to problems.

People are people--religious, atheistic--people are people.
