I am ready for spring planting, but the ground here is not ready for it! Still have a foot of snow on the ground. I maintain a perennial flower garden and try to add a few new flowers each year. Still debating what will be the new adds this year. Obviously, I still have time to decide!

I have been starting to get my dirt ready, having added some organic fertaliser and mulch. I am planting some ornamental grasses, some lavenders, lots of annuals for colour. I have a huge yard but am only working on the front at the moment.

Make sure that you get plants specific to your area. Make sure you get your bulbs in as soon as your ground is ready. Mine will be ready for the pile of gladies I have in the fridge in about a week.

Brother Dean!

Gene and I changed our veggie garden into a "sitting" garden. We landscaped with very little money. We also did a "cafe" garden. Small trees and bushes. We're avid bird watchers, and all you need to attract hummingbirds is flowers and perhaps a hummingbird feeder. Last year we expanded a bit and we're going to put some plantings around trees and near our shed. Lots of wild flowers! Here's a pic of some of our yard. I can't wait until spring/summer!

The hummingbirds love my patch of lavender I have by my front door. :)

If we stay in this particular house, I plan on making a raised flower bed along the side of the house that has the most street frontage.

If we don't I have to wait and see where we are moving, and then figure out where I plant the lavender :D

Brother Dean -- lavender loves loves loves direct sunlight, and is drought tolerant. My front porch gets a ton of direct heat (Oklahoma summers can be nasty) and other than watering it the first few weeks after planting, I didn't have to make a point of watering it, rainfall was sufficient. It may not flower the first year -- that's ok! Just cut it back about a third in the spring, and and just weed as necessary. "tis good stuff!

Yeah, I have a thing for lavender

We will be doing planting soon as well. I started a thread last week but mine was about vegetable gardens. I can't decide what I will have Neil plant lots of this year. Last year I had him outside planting tons of tulips. Our yard is very landscaped since my uncle owns a landscaping company and uses our yard as a "show yard" since we live on a main road. All of the daffodils look like they're about to bloom. Hopefully they're up for Easter since it is so early this year.

Cassie does lavender get out of hand and try to grow all over or does it just stay where it's planted? Was always curious about that because I love the look and smell of it. Thought about planting it along the stream next to our house where there are lots of wildflowers.

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.
