Had to open this one up, have fun guys and gals - let's have a nice old religious debate.

Why not. Also, I am not a Christian, but DO believe in something - how many of you out there DO believe in something but DO NOT define their religion? I'd love to open that up as a discussion point because I like bumping ideas off people, and am sure there are others out there who feel the same! :)(F)

Well nah, I just figured this could be a decent place to bump heads about alternative theories :) I did chuckle though and say to Ben "Boy, I might get into trouble for this!" :P

Was slgihtly influenced by a few comments on the other thread actually. Figured I'd make this one an "alternative beliefs" thread. Come on out, Wiccans, Druids, Earth Religion followers and Gaians etc :)

I dunno....I like to believe there is something after this life. With all the religions there are, most believe in some kind of afterlife or reincarnation...somebody's got to be right! It has always helped me to deal with family members passing especially, the knowledge that I will see them again, and also that they look out for me from wherever they are, is a comfort to me.

I believe that all of us are bound by a power bigger than us (like a giant web connecting every living thing to every other living thing), which we don't have the brainpower to understand. I believe this power can be harnessed for good purposes.

I think that when we're born, the life forces within us come out like little waves on a sea of life, filling the bodies we inhabit, and that when we die, the waves filling us retreat back into the massive ocean of life force once again, constantly recycled in different living beings but - like water - never in the same combination.

I believe in being good, and I believe that if one does something that is bad, it will richochet around this great big net of life, and hit us straight back in the face again. I believe that yin and yang balance each other, that things do eventually come back to the middle, and that people need to try very hard, the world over, to love and care for those closest to them, and spread understanding, love, patience and care around wherever they go, no matter what they believe in.

I am me, and these are my beliefs :)(F)

In a totally non-proselytize-y way, I wonder if you've ever been to a Unitarian Universalist service? Your beliefs, or at least a lot of them, sound a lot like mine. Plus, of course, UU-ism is about not requiring people to have one specific doctrine--our doctrine is that we all have the right and responsibility to develop our own beliefs.

What I believe, my values, etc. are essentially displayed in my dealings with people, here and in 'real life.'

I don't feel a need to define it any closer than that at this time (not meaning that I'm not defining it "here", I mean I'm not defining it in my life, either).

However, good on ya for putting this thread out there...and making it non-denomenational at this time. I'll be reading with interest. :D

I like the idea of the Unitarian Church. I'm not religious, but I like their principles. My husband and I talked about it, and decided that when we have kids we'd join, so that they can make a choice for themselves.

You mean.....I can actually have a point of view on this thread???!!!.......COOL!!!:dance:

I live my life the best way I can...I try to be honest, treat ppl with respect, I don't hurt animals although I do eat them  I try hard to understand certain ppl when I know they are trying to hurt me, I try not to be malicious or resentful.......yes, at times it is a daily struggle to meet these ideals and sometimes I fail but have no one to answer to except my own conscience when I do....I know I have a good heart and IF there is a God who will judge me one day, I hope he will see that.....if he/she/it doesn't then he/she/it doesn't deserve to have me in 'heaven'

I visited a UU church in Nashville once and thought that their approach was really refreshing. Much more so than the church that I had also visited a time or two. The latter had nothing better to do than hailing Bush on the evening of the Iraq invasion. They invited to a prayer. Surely, for peace and the about to be lost innocent souls, I figured. Damn was I wrong. The pastor was just humping Bush's leg in front of the crowd and seemingly getting off doing so. I never exited a building as fast or as disgusted...

Other than that, I believe that this thread will turn ugly in due time or die...

Okay, wow, totally off topic but all this time I thought you were the "husband" in your picture. LOL
