Charry just got her Passport from Delbros.

When she got the Passport it was attached to the envelope that you can not open.

The delivery guy said it was fine to detatch the passport from the envelope!!!

One of the guides I have read about the CFO Seminar says something along the lines of when photocopying your passport becarefull not to detatch the envelope from the passport or you will have to have it reattached at the embassy...

Should I be worried that Charry did this?

Anyone who has gone through the process already, have you had trouble if this was done?

Thanks

Marc

You should get an envelope within an envelope. The brown one with the corner cut off is the one you should NOT open. The one that has the passport ( the outer one) is OK to open. As long as you do not open the brown one with the corner cut off you are fine.

I know this.. What I am worried about is that to my knowledge, via guides I read, says the passport was attached to the "brown one with the corner cut off" and that you should detatch it from this envelope. I may be wrong about which envelope it was attached to thou.

You can open the envelope containing the passport as long as you don't open the one with the corner cut off. You will need the passport to leave the country and for CFO.

Again, that is not the issue.

She received the envelope with the passport and the "brown envelope that should not be opened" in it.

The passport was "attached" "connected to" to the brown envelope and she separated it from the brown envelope.

The guide I found talking about the CFO Seminar says "When you have your visa xeroxed, make sure the person doing the photocopying doesn't detach the envelope containing all your paperwork from your passport, or you'll have to go back to the US Embassy to get it reattached"

What I get from this comment is that the brown envelope is physically connected to the passport, whether it is stapled or not I'm not sure. And that if they come apart you have to go back to the embassy to have them reattached.

What I am looking for is information from someone else who has gone through the process recently to tell me if they had any issues if the passport was not attached to the brown envelope.

We have not and will not open the brown envelope. So please stop telling me not to open it.

Why not call the Embassy to get the straight scoop?

Just remove the passport BUT make sure you dont open the brown envelope with the corner cut off. As long as the brown envelope remains intact, you are good. One way or another she has to remove the passport for the CFO stamping and of course when she will travel in coming here. Mine was like that too. I read the instructions carefully but I had no choice but to remove my passport because I needed it for stamping. I just saw to it that the brown envelope was intact and I had no problems with the POE in San Francisco.

Goodluck to her and welcome to America.

Removal of Conditions :

August 16, 2010 - Petition received by USCIS Vermont Center

August 20, 2010 - NOA1 received

October 4, 2010 - Biometrics

January 3, 2011 - Permanent 10 yr. Green Card Received.

In addition, as long as the passport is not inside the brown envelope, you can detach it.
