Darren and I have been filling out the forms to return with Packet 3 and we have some final questions:

We have filled out the following:

Checklist

DS-230 Part I (filled out/signed)

DS-230 Part II (filled out/not signed)

DS-156 (filled out/signed)

DS-156K (filled out/not signed)

DS-157

We have the following documents:

I-134 (filled out and notarised)

Letter from my employer on letterhead

Last three tax returns (including this year)

last three paycheck stubs

passport photos

identical copy of the I-129F packet

Now, the big questions are:

1. Should we send this with a cover letter, or is that unnecessary?

2. Do we attach the passport pictures to the DS-156, or will they do that at the embassy?

3. Is there anything we're missing?

Thanks so much for your help!!!

What does the checklist say to return to the consulate?

It says to fill out and return the completed checklist, DS-156, DS-156K, DS-157, and DS-230, but is unclear about whether to attach the passport photos to the DS-156. I was using the search for it for about an hour, but couldn't find anything definitive...some consulates say yes, some say no, most don't even mention it.

Ah I see.

In September 05, we took them with us to the interview. Have you read recent interview account posts that might answer your question?

I'm just taking mine - I think you need one for the medical and two to take to the interview...

I'm a bit concerned about the duplicated I-129f package though because we didn't make one - we sent ours off before we found this place  Will this be a problem do you think?

I don't think so...it's just my obsessive attention to detail...(and it makes Darren and me feel more comfortable to have everything with him at the interview, whether he needs everything or not...)

Griff's interview was January 2008 and he took his pics with him to the interview. You should have your fiance do the same.

Good luck!

The duplicated I129f is a "nice to have" but is not needed by the embassy. The duplication is just a recommendation made by VJ. Don't fret!

You'll probably think this is funny...when I went to get an official copy of my birth certificate, I got three copies...just in case (what the heck do I need with 3 copies?!?!?)

sorry to hijack your thread, but my question kinda goes along with yours....

my fiance hasnt gotten his packet 3 yet, but will be getting it soon.

I have seen some posts where people talk about gathering the forms and everything else you need and then ONLY sending back the checklist just saying you've got everything and are ready for interview.

Do you have to send back the forms with the checklist or is just the checklist alright?

this has been confusing me for a while

Haha - I've been the same since the duplicate packet "mistake". I make three copies - I send one, then have the other two - one for my reference and one in case the one I sent gets lost :D

No probs!! YOu have all the forms you need to fill in and the checklist. You can send them all back separately if you want or all together (like I did). The reasoning behind it is that you might have filled in all your forms and want them to be sent off, but you might not have the evidence and info that is requested for the I-134 or some of the documentation (police certificate etc) that you need to bring to interview. If this is the case you can keep the checklist until you know you will have the stuff in time then send the checklist back separately: you will not get your packet 4/interview date until you return this checklist as well as the forms :)

Hope this helps :)

Thanks Jeraly

So once the checklist and forms are all sent in, then to the interview you'd bring the stuff from the USC (I-134 & accompanying paperwork, evidence of ongoing relationship) and the police certificate and the passport photos?

 Just trying to make a mental checklist ahead of time cause my fiance is worried sick and I just wanna be able to ease his mind a bit.
