K1 and Married now filing for AOS - Name change questions

We just married on the 8th, 2 days prior to the K1 expiring. Our marriage certificate was filed and we got certified copies immediately. They are all under her Maiden name as we were instructed.

Now we are filing for AOS.

I've read conflicting things about her changing her last name. In some cases I read its basically just a custom and no legal changes are required. In either case, I know she DOES need to go change her last name at the Social Security office.

Questions:

If she goes and changes her name at the SSA office right now and then files all AOS documents under her Married name (my last name) and not her maiden name, is everything kosher?

I know as far as other things go it's pretty simple (bank accounts, drivers license, whatever). I just want to make sure the AOS piece is correct.

thx

Check with your State, some states allow name change at the same time as marriage, NY State allows this, you write on the marriage license what the married name will be after marriage, other states require a legal change of name to be filed for.

We married in NY and have married name on the marriage cert. We used the Marriage cert to apply for SSN using married name, and we applied for AOS using married name, AOS has a line for "Name on I-94" that is where you list maiden name, as well as G-325A "Other names used"

If you file for AOS using maiden name and later after getting green-card you decide to get the name changed on the card you will have to file an I-90 and pay $370

She needs to file her AOS documents under whatever name she wants to be recognized as...

She only needs to change her name at the appropriate places (SSN, DMV, USCIS) if she has decided to change her legal name. If she has decided to keep her "maiden" name as her legal name what is there to change?

My wife changed the spelling of her first name, adopted a middle name, and changed her last name, all of which was different than what ker K-1 was issued as....

I have my SSN and bank account in my maiden name and filed for AOS using my married name. The bank won't change the name on the account until I get my greencard so I have left all other name changes until that comes through.
