I don't know whether they'll let me pack stuff under other stuff (eg under the legs of the sideboard which is, unusually, quite high off the ground) or whatever...

You can do that, our packers most certainly did. If you put stuff inside pieces of furniture just make sure the doors/drawers are not locked as customs will break them open if they want to see inside and can't find the key.

Yeah, they told us that, too. In the end it took about 6 weeks to get from our old front door in London to our new front door in Connecticut. If you need your baby's things more quickly, you might investigate bringing those with you on your flight as cargo -- check with your airline for pricing.

Also - how much would it normally cost to take extra as cargo? I never heard of doing it before and wondered if I didn't have a lot whether this would be a better option..?

well, I've contacted a number of places now, and asked for a quote based on the same cubic foot estimate for all of them... so far I've been most impressed with Anglo-Pacific; the guy I spoke to was REALLY friendly and helpful, and the quote is very competitive without being THE lowest... plus, when I looked at their website, they have a guide price per cubic foot! so someone's being practical ;)

they also operate out of Australia, so if I get them here, and they're good, they'll have pretty much guaranteed another sale ;)

anyone used Anglo-Pacific, just out of interest?

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

henc

man, that's pretty full-on

first bad review I've seen though... I've been looking elsewhere as well, and everyone else just RAVES about them

and the service they've quoted me for would have them packing everything, so I wouldn't have that box problem...

thanks, anyway; that's helpful :)

now I don't know what to do...

We used Allied Pickfords for our move. They did all the packing and unpacking.

We cannot speak highly enough of them. They did what they promised to do when they said, including the stuff arriving at our house well within the time frame they said.

If we were doing such a move again I'd go straight to them for it.

What are the reviews like for Allied Pickfords? Sometimes cheaper isn't always better... What sort of prices are you looking at? Or do you not want to say?
