Hi all!

I'm looking at buying a return ticket once I get my visa in early April.

I will fly down to the USA in April, then once married, we will adjust status and apply for advanced parole in order to go back to Vancouver for a week in October.

Can I use one portion of the ticket in April, use the other portion in October, then rent a truck and drive back to USA in October with the contents of my storage unit? I only plan to bring two suitcases with me in April and come back for my other belongings in October.

Has anyone done this? Please advise.

Thank you very much!

Let me see if I have this straight. You'd buy a roundtrip ticket from the US to Vancouver & back? I don't see any problem with that. It's definitely more expensive to buy 2 one way tickets and you'd be up for a huge hassle with security. You can always adjust your return date to Vancouver if needed (usually a fee). How are you getting back from Vancouver then?

I know you didn't say this, but I do know that they won't let you use the 2nd portion of a round trip ticket if you don't use the first (like say you drive instead) but you can always use the first part and then cancel or delay the 2nd.

I sure hope that made sense

I think they are renting a truck in Vancouver driving to the US and then I suppose drop the rental off in the US. That will of course be a lot of extra money to do that, if it's even allowed between the US and Canada to drop off a rental in the other country like that even if it's from the same company?

2nd I guess is, you had better hope you get your AP before your return flight, or you'll have to pay some possibly large change fees (worse the closer it gets to the flight date).

I would think with all this, why wouldn't you just rent the truck in the US and drive to Canada and pick up your stuff and drive back? Then only get one plane ticket for one way? This way you're not set on dates for your AP and the cost will offset the one-way fare when you return the rental to the orgin you got it from?

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

My original plan was to buy a return ticket, use up the first half in April when entering USA with the K1, then use the second portion when I visit Canada on parole in October (hoping I get it in time). And when I go back to the USA, I'd rent a UHaul to drive my stuff down with me. I wanted to reduce driving as much as possible as I prefer flying.

I ended up just purchasing a one-way ticket for April, and when/if I get my AP in October, my man and I will buy one-way tickets to Vancouver and drive the UHaul back. I hope that works out!
