go on, and?

It's self explanatory really. For one, she just loaned her campaign $5 million from own finances. The public has a right to know just where all her income came from.

She makes money as a Senator & former First Lady, and Bill makes it speaking as a former President. They made $12M last year. Still don't see your point.

No, it's not self explanatory, that's why I asked. We have the Barack machine claiming that despite the clinton's having released their tax returns for the past 20 years, somehow there is going to be something damning in this year's return, some mystery donation that explains her $5 loan?

Sorry, $5 mill loan, lol.

You should be asking, 'why won't she just provide it?' We should expect politicians and the offices they hold to be as transparent as possible. After dealing with two WH's that both have been mired in controversial secrecy, any candidate who even hesitates with trying to be transparent should expect the scrutiny that brings them.

I should be asking the questions that I think are important which is what I do. You are assuming that she will not release the returns. I think your assumption might prove false.

Has Obama released his tax returns?

Yes.

Senator Barack Obama said today that Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s decision to not disclose her income tax returns raises questions about the decision to loan $5 million to her campaign.

“I’ll just say that I’ve released my tax returns –- that’s been a policy I’ve maintained consistently,” Mr. Obama said, speaking to reporters as he flew from Louisiana to Nebraska for a campaign rally. “I think the American people deserve to know where you get your income from.”

Mr. Obama stopped short of issuing a call for Mrs. Clinton and former President Bill Clinton to release their tax returns. His statement came in answering a question from a reporter about whether voters have a right to know where Mrs. Clinton’s $5 million loan came from.

“As I’ve said, I’ve disclosed my income tax returns,” Mr. Obama said, when asked again about the matter. “I think we’ve set the bar in terms of transparency and disclosure. That’s been a consistent theme of my campaign and my career in politics.”

Later, he added: “I’m not going to get into the intricacies of their finances. That’s something that you’ll have to ask them.”

Clinton campaign officials said on Thursday that she would release her tax returns if she won the Democratic nomination, but argued that there was sufficient information in her publicly available Senate financial disclosure forms for voters and reporters to assess her personal finances.

Regardless, if she is following the rules, and there is nothing to suggest that their is anything dodgy in her return, why should she play along with this assumption that she has something to hide?

I note on a Chicago Tribune story he released his 1040 (for 06) but not any supporting documents. And he has only released one year of returns - not 20

Conversely, if she is following the rules, why shouldn't she release her return?

Steven, it's fine that you like the guy, but honestly, you don't see the reverse psycology angle that he's playing here? Has there ever been anything funny about the Clinton's tax returns in the past? Is there anything that could lead one to the conclusion that they have been playing fast and loose with their supposed income? Have they ever been late with their returns before? His language totally plays on the emotions that we should be suspicious because he says so and not because there is any evidence that there is anything wrong?

Obama released only Form 1040 from his tax return and not underlying attachments which provide detail about income and spending.

If the rules say she must by a certain date, then of course she must. However, to have to produce these returns because Barack says she ought to is playing more of the same old games that people keep suggesting he doesn't like to play.
