Hello Everybody,

Just a quick question, I want to get some feedback and get a clear picture. I've been thinking for a couple of days about my mom's situation.

Here are the facts:

On Apr. 17, we'll be interviewed in order to get the GC. If god is great and I have good luck we'll be approved on the spot and I'll become a PR ( married my lovely wife who is a US Citizen). I'm planning on applying for citizenship as soon as we can (meaning 3 years after getting the PR).

My question is the following, my mom is already in process of getting her PR through my uncle (who is a US Citizen) but the timeframe for brothers/sister of a US Citizen I've seen takes about 10+ years. She applied on 2001 and got approved on 2005 but with the ugly backlog USCIS is having I think it will take more than 10 years. She already got her acceptance letter but we still have to wait for her appointment NOA. We haven't heard anything since, her file was last touched on Oct '07 though.

Do you think that me becoming a US Citizen will speed up her process or since it's still 3 yrs from now, it won't matter?

Thank you so much for you feedback!

Your becoming a citizen will not have any impact on your uncle's pending application for your mother. However, if you file a separate petition for your mother now while you are still a PR, then it will be upgraded once you become a USC.

I cannot file a petition for her since PR cannot petition mothers or siblings

You're right. My bad! You'll have to wait until you naturalize before you can submit a petition for your mom.

BUMP

To clarify this, I'm thinking on filing and upgrading my mom's petition as soon as I become a US Citizen on 2011. I hope there will be no need but if there is no sign that my mom will receive her GC I'd like to help her to speed up the process.

My question is if this will change her wait time at all, since now it is +10 yrs for foreign siblings of a US Citizen.
