Duh. It was a small town Cali speaking engagement that would have NEVER made national news but hey, anything to dirty the waters...

Why do you insist on taking this stuff so personally?

Its a presidential nomination campaign - none of this is surprising, new or outrageous.

Not personal.

Sorry, but your statement made me go, #######? Why does anyone speak - because they can! She made them because she is an outspoken political woman. Media picked up on it & now it's a national sensation! Oh noes!!!!

Well she is a recognisable figure attached to HC's campaign. Aren't such people briefed or coached on these things - that any public statements they make will inevitably be subjected to public and media scrutiny?

Hell - the guy in the Obama campaign resigned the other week for inflammatory comments he made in a Scottish newspaper.

Like that - I suspect this will be a flash in the pan. Forgotten about by the end of the week.

So if we play the pattern, who/what will next week's high school gossip generator be? Given the silly nature of the pattern, which of the two campaigns will have a finger pointed at them?

What I would say is that noone says we have to post or comment on every statement or story that pops up in the news. That people are talking about it is sufficient to do so - if only to say that its very silly.

It was a (Pulitzer-Prize-winning & Harvard professor) woman! ;)

And no, the candidates cannot be expected to school all their supporters, come on.

I think Hillary is in the running because people like her (over Obama). Bottom line. The voting shows that. Is he ahead, yes. But it is not a landslide by anyone, anywhere. This country is definitely split.

If it is pointed out, why is automatically DENIED that it's sexist? Or racist in Obama's case? Sexism is acceptable in politics apparently.

What's a bigger 'first'? A woman president or a black one? Just asking.

Well, taking into account what you previously had as your signature, you seem to think that Hillary's gender is important. Are you honestly saying that it has no bearing on her support, that people just "like her" more?

Secondly, is it possible that your dislike of Obama has nothing to do with his race? Isn't it possible that my dislike of Clinton has nothing to do with her gender?

No, I'm not saying that. I think her gender is important to some (as is his race). But if anyone says something in the media is sexist - it's automatically denied. Why?

To your second point, yes & yes. ;)

Absolutely right.

They should school, though, their campaign managers like those that collect the money for the race.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

well, one would 'assume' that decorum & self-editing would come into play when speaking out. But obvs that is not the case. ;)

I doubt there would have been a difference in coverage if it had been a prominent male supporter who had made these comments.

They school their campaign workers. Supporters should know better (especially veteran politicians), or at the least the candidate should establish exactly where they stand on that person's comments. HC did that here and BO did that with Louis Farrakhan.

We'd all wish that. Specially when the person in question was a former VP candidate. I don't know about you, but this is still a country where a politician gets better public attention than both a Pulitzer prize winner and a Harvard prof- specially when the word for word comparison states 'race card played against an aopponent vs judgement assessment based on political games played by the subject of the commentary.' This is a concept to concept comparison.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

ah, I don't know. Power got a fair bit of coverage overseas AND here. And she stepped down. Ferraro offered to but hasn't been asked to.

Power had a specific attack on HC, Ferraro had more of a general attack on BO.

Probably not, I was just clarifying.

Who knows... this is, of course, politics. Power's comment was based on reaction to dirty politics played by Hillary's people. Ferarro's comments were based on attacking the values that place Obama in the lead. And that, is dirty. These are not equal concepts and its hilarious that this week's gossip is not treated equally by Hillary as it was by Obama in restraining something silly, yet detrimental to his campaign. By taking the silent road, Hillary is in effect playing the game.

HC was not silent.

Clinton told The Associated Press that she did not agree with Ferraro's comments.

"It is regrettable that any of our supporters on both sides, because we've both had that experience, say things that kind of veer off into the personal," she said. "We ought to keep this on the issues. There are differences between us. There are differences between our approaches on health care, on energy, on our experience, on our results that we've produced for people. That's what this campaign should be about."

and

Clinton campaign spokesman Mo Eleithee told CNN's Sasha Johnson Tuesday evening that "Ms. Ferraro is speaking for herself. We have made clear that we do not agree with her remarks."

You know what I am getting at. Obama was also in disagreement with Power, and she resigned. Ferarro said she was not asked to resign, and hence that implies silence and acceptance in private, even though in public she states something different. These are not semantics, this is reality.

Yes, but Ferraro is on her finance committee not a senior advisor like Power was.
