Hello,

I am going to the Philippines in April, I will arrive late Friday night on the 17th, and then I will return home on Monday May 5th. I have read there is a 10 day waiting period for the application, and that I must go to the us embassy and get proof I can legally marry. My question is can I send her copies or fax of any documents so that she can file for the application before I arrive to help expedite the process? I know I will be there for 16 days, but there are many weekend days in this time, and I just want to make sure that we have enough time to get married, and if we do not have to worry about the 10 days, we can use that time to visit her family and actually enjoy the vacation instead of worrying about the application, but if we do not have enough time then we can look to filing for the k1 instead. If you can help, we would both appreciate it greatly. Thanks Jerome

First thing you need to do is go to the embassy and get a notarized affidavit in lieu of certificate of legal capacity to contract marriage for American citizen. You will need to bring any divorce decree's of previous marriage's. then you can go to her province and apply for marriage license at her local city hall. During your 10 day wait you can make all your arrangements. for wedding. Either church or civil. good luck, James
