Just think of the chemicals available here which are banned in most other 1st world countries.

Such as?

For a start, I remember reading an article from Fancy Pants http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...t&p=1638593 which spoke about a company that produced x products / substitutes which are banned in every other 1st world country, apart from the US.

There are a range of other chemicals that I studied while at school but cannot remember them off the top of my head.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Well the country is not actually renowned for being tough on stuff like this. Just think of the chemicals available here which are banned in most other 1st world countries. There is always more that can be done but it will obviously cost time and money.

The federal government needs to have a serious look at this growing contamination problem.

I hear some states are starting to promote taking your leftover meds back to the pharmacy for proper disposal.

The only pill I take is thyroid hormone for an under active thyroid gland. I do not take anything else including aspirin, acetaminophen or ibuprofen. I don't believe all these pills are that necessary.

Say no to drugs! It still works today!

My beloved Joy is here, married and pregnant!

Baby due March 28, 2009

This is a nightmare scenario starting to come to public attention.

Imagine taking a drug innocently, while roughly 40-50% of it is actually absorbed by your body... and the rest is flushed out of your system. Down the sewer.

This is most likely, given our current assumed rates of medication, the greatest source of drugs that end up in the places sampled. And it is very scary.

How can we analyze what overmedication means in a society that may actually need such overmedication due to our horrible personal health standards? This may be a case that goes into protecting the environment and those that do not want to receive these drugs in their diet. Be they non-bioactive or not.

Interesting. I think many hear were assuming off the bat that it's solely from people flushing their meds down the toilet.

Given our current rates of [over]medication I wouldn't be too surprised to peg it on one major source such as this... however, industrial production and individual waste of excess meds may also obviously be a contributor...

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

What I'd like to see is more Viagra, Levitra and Cialis flushed down the toilet.

Do you think this raises questions on whether people are being 'over-medicated'? My parents who are way past 70 keep saying how they can't believe the number of TV and magazine Ads there are nowadays for pharmacueticals....all with the request, "Ask your doctor, if (insert drug name) is right for you." What happened to pharmaceutical companies in the last 20 years or so? Deregulations?

Which is a good idea. Or just throw it in the trash.

If that were the oooonly thing... lol... however, there's lotsa more stuff and lots of gender-appropriate medications certain people and age groups should try to avoid...

People taking (X) should not (Y) or (Z)... so I guess if we find on a repeated basis these medications at increasing concentrations over the years in our water supply... then perhaps the commercials should just not be targeted to patients but to water company customers...

Perhaps litigation over liability against these Pharmaceutical companies for essentially pushing these potentially harmful drugs onto the general population would stop the onslaught of silly ads. Seriously, who goes to their doctor and says, "Hey doc, I've been hearing about (drug name) a lot. Is this something you'd prescribe for me?" I'd be annoyed to hear that from a patient if I were a doctor.
