My fiances flight landed at 559am but by the time she came out it was 830am. It took her 2.5 hrs to get thru, immigration, getting her bags and then customs.

She went on line(seems there were lik 7 flight coming in at once). The immigration officer asked her 1-2 questions(what is your fiances name, his address, what does he do?). Simple questions. Then she was directed to the secondary room.

She waited there for over 90 mins. A guy came up to her took her paperwork, she waited 30 mins, he came back asked her the same few questions above and then she waited another 40 mins or so. He came back asked her what I do. He came back 15 mins later with the passport stamped and EAD.

It was a very long wait. But we got thru it. She landed in terminal 4 where alot of international flights land. She wasnt harassed but she was made to wait. alot!

1) Is it worth the extra hassle of making sure JFK is the point of entry in order to get the EAD stamp, which, from what I hear, the JFK airport is basically the only one that gives it out? From what I understand it will take up to 90 days after filing the AOS documents to receive it so I think it would be well worth it.

2) My girlfriend barely speaks English. Will they be less likely to give her the EAD stamp at JFK or do they give it to everyone?

I must say from what I have seen on the July spreadsheet I have been updating around just under 50% of people seem to be going through JFK - at least as it stands at the moment. I'm personally not going to bother - I will have my cat with me and so I don't want her in her basket any longer than she needs to be so I want to try and get a direct flight to LAX.

Besides - I am kinda looking forward to not having to work for a while and because I won't be able to help it I won't feel too guilty!! Will prolly find voluntary work for a bit anyway :)

You don't need the EAD stamp with the K-1. Please read paragraph C, section 1 --- the K-1 inherently allows you to work for the first 90 days you are in the country. with or without a stamp!

How awful they made her wait like that. I'm glad you're together though! That's great! Congratulations!

Jason, you must be getting so excited!!! Get that house clean and make room in the closet! :lol

thegreatgate... your poe is entirely up to you. Some would see the EAD stamp as useful but you have to remember, that it too expires after 90 days so what if your SO gets the stamp, gets a job and then it expires as you are awaiting the new EAD with your AOS/AP??? Then you're S.O.L.

We didnt even ask for the EAD they just stamp it. The only reason I went thru JFK is I live in New York. Only 20 min drive for me.

And getting the house clean.. oh boy... I spent 3 days.. and bought a bunch of rubbermaid storage containers!!!

So that means that if you come in on a K-1, you can work for 90 days without a stamp?
