Hi,

I'm a US citizen in St Louis and my fiance is in SK Canada.

We haven't yet submitted our initial K1 papers.

I'm wondering about travel back and forth by myself or her during the whole process?

Is any of it prohibited or discretionary?

I'm also wondering if I can travel to Canada by land and bring back her possesions in my vehicle?

Personal effects and some electronics. Is there a specific form?

This would be fairly soon, probably before our initial package is accepted.

Thanks and Good Luck to all of you already in the system,

Gene

I'm not sure if your fiancee would be able to travel here once you file the K-1 from what I have read. You as the US Citizen would be able to go back and forth. There are many members from Canada so I'm sure they will answer you.

Good Luck

I travel back and forth all the time .... I am going for k3. She'll just need to show proof that if she comes she plans to return. Letter from employer saying when her next shift is. As the USC you can go there too.

The letters from employer are good to have even when not yet in the system

There is never any guarantee that your fiance will be allowed to enter the U.S., even with proof that she intends to return to Canada. I made several trips to Washington state from British Columbia by car while our K-1 Visa application was pending with no problems, except on one occasion when they asked us if we had a K-1 application pending. We said we did, and the border officer wanted to see proof of my ties to Canada (such as my most recent pay stub, mortgage or lease documents, etc.). I did not have those documents with me at that time, but made sure I did from that day forward. But, it is totally up to the discretion of the border officer whether or not your fiance will be admitted.

You will not be able to bring any of your fiance's belongings down to the U.S. before she activates her K-1 Visa. Her belongings must accompany her or come after her, but may not be brought down before her.

You, of course, can travel to Canada without restrictions because Canadian immigration is not concerned about your fiance trying to immigrate to the U.S.

Good luck with your K-1 Visa process. If you have any other questions, you can either PM me or email me directly.

Your fiancee is lucky as it sounds like Vancouver is quicker than Montreal.

I have not tried to cross as the Canadian to the US, but I am hoping to at least once while the process is going on. I understand that your Canadian fiancee can travel to the US but needs to have proof of ties here in Canada. I have also heard that there are no guarantees that they will let her cross, but many have done it without incidet, just know there are no guarantees

My finace will be visiting from the UK this week, and I'm somewhat nervous about it-- our visa process has gone very smoothly up until now, and the last thing I want to do is screw it up by having him turned away at the border. I've told him to bring plenty of evidence of his ties to the UK (letter from employer, copy of deed to home, and he'll have the ticket from the paking garage where he's storing his car while he's here), so hopefully it will go well.

I can't see a reason people applying for fiance/spousal visas shouldn't be allowed to travel on tourist visas during the process-- if I'd planned on marrying him and having him overstay a tourist visa, I'd have just done it without paying the visa fees and putting us on the government's radar! : )

Hang in there, it sounds like he's got more than enough proof he's going back.

I guess just the idea of two visas is too confusing for immigration.

Howdy, where abouts in Sk is your fiance from? I grew up in prince Albert Sk. As others have stated she can travel to the USA while the process is ongoing, but its up to the POE officer. I travelled monthly to DC and never had a problem, but some do get denied!! have proof of ties to canada and dont bring any resumes to the USA!! lol Best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

She lives and works in Saskatoon. Been there over 20 years after growing up in Toronto.

She's been to PA many times and has many friends from there.

Thanks for the encouragement. You like Virginia and the DC area? The traffic allegedly sux.

Maybe we can keep in touch.
