Did anyones lady have problems getting her police report for the interview? Elena went to the police in Sochi to request the report I think on 1/14/08. Here we are nearly two months later, and still no police report. I always heard it takes about 1 month for the report, and we are WAY outside of that timeline.

Anyone else have problems, and if so, is there anything that can be done, or am I looking at rescheduling her interview? The interview is on April 2nd.

If I do have to reschedule, is it better to do thru email or do I need to call the consulate? Can you reschedule for a month or so out, or do you go to the back of the line again?

Thanks all!

If she is only waiting for one city police report (only lived in one city longer than 6 months), one month is the usual expected time. Two months sounds long. I have heard they will wait until the last minute to run the check but two months is a long time. Getting a new passport only takes one month as a rule. I'd have her go down to the police station or office and check it out.

Ira's was for the entire oblast (not just the city) and it only took three weeks. I would definitely have your bride go pay them a personal visit to find out what the hold up is. Might also be a good idea to send her a couple thousand roubles to bring with her to grease the roadblock, whatever it may be.

Did your fiancee request the police report before receiving her interview prep package from the US embassy? Shortly after we received our NAO2 but before my wife received the instruction packet from the US embassy in Moscow, she went to her local militsya to request her police report in hopes of getting everything tied up as quickly as possible before her interview. She was told that she needed to show them the instruction letter from the US embassy in order to get the wheels turning. So we waited a few more weeks and when she had the letter she took it to the militsya and the processed everything in approx. three weeks.

Unfortunately she did not get the packet from the embassy. I made an address change for her at the USCIS before we were adjudicated that never made it into the system. I even called NVC to make sure the change made it, and they told me it didnt, so I had them make the change. Apparently they didnt do it either, and the Moscow embassy will not send a second packet. They told me that she does not need the invitation/instruction letter, and that I should download all the stuff from the website and send it to her, which I did.

Fortunately, the police did not ask for the letter. She is gettting the run around saying that the documents must go from Sochi, to Krasnodar, then on to Moscow, and then come back the same way. Which is the way I think they all go, from the town, to the administrative center for the oblast, then to Moscow.

We are trying another tack now to get it moving, and if/when a "gift" becomes necessary, I will happily pay it to keep this thing moving. I really dont want to reschedule the interview, or have her go to the interview without all of the documents. I have a feeling that will open up a new set of issues if I have to do it.

You might want to read up on Chris Parker's posts concerning his troubles getting a police certificate from Georgia. His case was resolved by simply saying a police certificate was not available. If the hold up looks indefinite, you might want to try to get a letter saying the police station is "unable" to obtain a police certificate within a reasonable processing time and go to the interview without one. Worst thing that happens is they make approve you pending a police certificate. Just throwing out some ideas here.

Yes, it is possible to get approved "pending" a police report. Don't reschedule, if anything, go without one. Bring documentation of filing for one and let them know she's done all she can to get it.

It'll probably show up the day before she leaves.

The "other" tack we are trying is one of her clients (she is a lawyer) is a retired higher up in the militsia. He is going to make some calls to Krasnodar and possibly Moscow to see if any of his contacts there can tell him what is going on. She is going to call him on Friday and see what he has found out. I told her about Sats advice and she said if her contact cant find out any info she will ask him to have the current higher up in the Sochi militsia write the letter for her that Sat mentioned. That is all I can think to do. Thanks for that idea Sat.

Your right Slim, that damn form will probably show up, but it will be the day AFTER she leaves. She had to do two things to prepare for the interview, get an international passport, and get the police report. I was worried about the passport, since they tend to take a while sometimes, it seems problems with the police report are few and far between. She went and applied for both the same day, and got her passport today. Who woulda thought the police report would be this difficult!

I will take your advice Slim and not reschedule, but that puts me into "dark territory" so to speak, because I have no timeline to gage how the process works after something like that. I know she will have to send the docs into the 221G box, does anyone know about how long it takes after that? Is it a pretty quick turnaround?

I know there was a guy on here before who got a 221-G for "lack of evidence" and as soon as they filed all their extra stuff (phone bills, e-mails, pictures, etc.) it was approved that same day with the visa issued the next day or the day after.

That's the only time I've ever heard of a denial or 221-G coming from Moscow, and it was more of a "random" thing than any reasonable explanation. They had plenty of evidence with them but the C/O asked for more. I thought it sounded more like "random denial day" or something, but who knows.

At any rate, if you're going to get "approved pending police docs" then it shouldn't be but a couple days after submitting them.
