I don't even want to think about it until I'm at least 30. If I decide to have kids, I'll probably have one when I'm around 32 or so. I always liked having a young "cool" mom among my friends (she was 27 when she had me), but I don't think I could give up my 20s to children. I have too much to do and a short attention span! :)

No matter what, I'll get an amnio.

I had my daughter at 40 (she's 18 months old now).........I have two boys, ages 15 and 11.

I definitely have less energy this time, but I am also far more calm and patient and I know how quickly it all goes, so I just cherish every minute!

We went through genetic counsleing and an amniocentesis while I was pregnant to make sure everything was okay, and it was!!

I'm going to be 30 next month and I feel like I'm getting too old. I really think it's just a personal preference. I want to be able to enjoy my life once my kids are grown and out of the house. I've always felt this way. Unfortunately, someone else doesn't have the same feelings as me because I haven't had any kids yet. So, in that respect, I'll probably try until I have one or really am too old to have one.

dang you're old....:P

Do you think it matters if there's a big age difference between children?

My sister had another baby a year ago when the oldest was 12. So far so good - my nephew was happy to have a baby brother & he thinks he is the leader of the pack.

I was a teenager when all of my siblings were born. I was not living at home anymore by then, so my relationship with them I'd say is closer in nature to an aunt's than a sister's.

I always wanted to be a young, cool mom like mine too, but too late for that!

my youngest brother of the older 3 was about 12 or so when the first of the younger 3 was born.. he was used to being the baby for 12 or so years and took it kind of hard.. I don't think he has recovered from it yet.... he was totally spoiled though.. although my parents won't admit that he was... he got away with everything.... :P

I was 19 when i had Shonna, and 29 when i had Joshua, i will admit, with Joshua i am more patient than i was with Shonna, due to i matured. I dont regret having a child in my 20's, bc i realise even now, it was more fun sitting at home coloring than being at the clubs getting s**t-faced :)

Plus im the cool young mom among all her friends moms, everyone loves coming to my house or going on outings with us :)

Yep, I had my son at 19 and my daughter at 26. I ask all these questions because I'm curious. I imagined that P and I will want to have babies, even though I'm 36 now. So my questions are more curiosity because it came up with some friends the other day and they had VERY differing opinions. Of course, P and I will do what we, our (my) kids, and my doctor think best, but my curiosity got the better of me, especially after thinking of Steven and Jinky about to have their baby. I've had babies on the mind.... :)

to each their own...but... my mom was 36 when i was born (and i have much older siblings) and i always felt cheated when i was younger by having older parents who seemed to already be sort of worn out from raising my older brothers. i think younger parents generally have more energy for their kids and well...and can be around longer for the possible grandchildren. my mom will be quite old by the time i even have a baby...and by the time my kid will be old enough to really remember quality time with her? not likely. so in that sense i think the kid gets cheated out of certain things sometimes.

but i do understand circumstances of WHY people have them late in life and don't fault anyone for it. just stating my personal experience. i love my mom and i wish my future kids would be able to really know her like i do! :) :)

I'm a RN student and just finished with OB. The "magical" number they use in the medical books is 35 yrs of age. Once a women reaches that age, she is at increased risk of certain birth defects (down syndrome, premature birth, etc etc)!! That doesnt mean one should not have kids above that age, it just states that that women at 35 and above is at increased risk to haver certain complications. In my opinion everyone that is thinking of getting pregnant should talk with their family doctor, OBGYN, or Nurse practitioner, and see what they can do to prepare for conception to birth!! Moms should be eating proper, obtaining appropriate amounts of folic acid (to try and prevent tubal defects) iron, etc etc!! And prenatal care is very important!! So yes age is something to consider, but so is the "whole" package!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!
