My husband was preparing to go to the Embassy after we confirmed with Embassy that, "yes, he is to come in as soon as possible."

Today, my husband received a call from the Embassy. They said, "Don't come in until you email us your CV and the CV's of people you know. Once we receive this information, we will ask you to come in."

#######????

I called the State Department about this. I said, "The Embassy never answers email inquiries and there is an automated message during business hours for the telephone inquiry line." So nobody at the Embassy is there for clarifying this request. Why would my husband be required to give CV's of his friends? The DOS lady said it was weird too. That request is normally for business visas. She was kind enough to give me the name of the head officer in Abu Dhabi and said I should email & fax using his name in the subject line to get some proper response.

So I just emailed him and after work I will fax him.

But have any of you had the request for a marriage visa, for your significant other to provide resumes of his friends, family and co-workers?

Tina

PS...I have had a nervous breakdown

My husband emailed me...

A woman called Maryam called from the Embassy and said he is to email his CV to the Embassy.

In his CV he is to list all the places he lived, worked for, any special projects he has done, any special studies....and give personal references from friends.

Now why does he have to do this?

We listed all the places he lived on the DS-230. Listed all his employers, all his schooling...

Why do they need personal references?

Sounds like they think he has a worker visa????

Sounds very strange.. I agree it sounds like a work related visa request. I hope you have an answer from your contact soon.

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

What makes this especially hard is that I became very angry yesterday with my husband.

I have been extremely depressed until I found out the Embassy said it was time to come in. On was on cloud 9 for the last three days envisioning his first days here. When he and I discussed the time frame AFTER the visa is issued, I felt 4 to 6 weeks is enough time to "wrap up business" and "settle affairs" there. However, my husband has procrastinated on one important thing and said it would take more time than 6 weeks.

I flipped out!

How could he wait on this financial matter when he knew even in December his case was basically "approved?"

I was heart broken.

Still am heart broken.

And to be honest, I am depleted to do anything more.

You all know the drill....fill out forms, pay bills, gather documents, fill out more forms, more bills, more documents...calling, emailing NVC, DOS and Embassy repeatedly through the AP process. Doing everything in your power to make a case go faster in order to re-unite with your spouse. Working and living for immigration...

And then to find out your spouse is not "ready" to go when the visa comes????

I am getting drunk tonight and surely need a couple of vicoden on top of it!

Tina,

Hang in there baby. Drugs and booze are not the answer (unless I can join you).

It will work out, the consulates are just a bunch of government employees who know their jobs are secure unless they commit a MAJOR bad thing. They don't care about you, me, or our significant others.

As to your husband, at risk of being called a sexist, I think it is a man thing.

My SO, who has been in security checks for more than a year has decided he needs to buy a car to replace his worn out truck and try to start a new business venture. I wonder in my head, how can u do this, plan for a future there when we are just waiting for the visa. I mean I have pretty much put my life on hold for the past year.....

It is just the way men think, when he has the visa in his hands (hopefully very soon) he will panic and you will be amazed at how fast he will wrap things up and be by your side.

Hang in there, you have made it this far, don't let the government wear you out.

A couple in the Canada Forum ran up against a similar roadblock and received some information that explained the request. It may or may not be relevant to your situation, but in case it is . . . (read the whole thread - it comes up about 1/3rd of the way through).

Good luck and I hope you and your husband are reunited soon.

God bless on the visa situation, maybe extra security clearance? a persian woman who worked at Macy's with me long long time ago had the same thing with her husband on the Visa issue. You gotta set that man straight woman. My spouse quit his job couple of months ago and he gets everything done in the same day when I ask for it. You should be the one relaxing! Can't imagine what you're going thru thats horrible but you'll get through it.

i hate to say it, but i feel this way too sometimes. i try to remind myself that this is a temporary condition (i hope it is, anyway?? ), and that all this time i've spent doing the papers and spending the money and the worry, the endless worry... in the end i know that Habibi will be sacrificing much more than i ever had if inchallah we get the visa and he comes to live here.

But i am sorry, Nutty. it sounds so frustrating, and i hope you can really tell him how you feel, and that he gives you a good explanation. And i hope whatever madness is going on at the consulate, that they figure out where their asses are, and that they give your husband the darn visa already!

Good luck, you have all our best wishes, (F)(F)(F)

Awwww.... sweety I am so sorry! ((hugs))

The same thing happened to me, and I tried to be understanding even though I was really depressed about it. I couldn't believe he had put it off either until the visa was in hand - he though it should only take a few weeks... yeah right <_< nothing in Egypt just takes "juast a few weeks". I just started planning for everything when he would be here, even though he wouldn't buy a plane ticket bc he wasn't sure... but then at the end of 4 weeks he said he still wasn't going to be ready and he had "several more months until I have to use the visa right?" - then I really flipped out on him  A few days later he gave up, called in a few favors, left everything and was here in 3 days. He lost ALOT of money and sometimes talks about that and how we could really use it right now (not to mention the things he forgot to buy for the house or pack ), but I think he's happy here anyway.

You need to give him time to get everything settled, he will regret it if he doesn't... maby he was a bit of an airhead to leave something that will take awhile to the last minute, but there is nothing you can do about it now. Maby he was afraid to plan for the future and get his hopes up, I can definantly understand that. When I was told this it didn't help, but you will be glad that you let him wrap everything up before he moves here. It may be awhile until he can return and it can really eat at him if he leaves it undone. Try to look at the positives

Hope you are feeling better soon and hang in there (F)
