Hi all.

Another question to add to the list.

My partner is currently living and is registered in Ohio, USA. When our k1 Visa comes through we hope to marry in NYC. Is this possible. I have read that each state has its own laws when it comes to marriage. Is it part of the k1 requirements that you marry in the state where the US citizen is registered?

Cheers

NO  it is not a requirement to marry in petitioner's home state.

Many like to marry in places like Las Vegas NV, Hawaii, or perhaps closer to where friends and family live which may be a different state than where they live.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

You don't have to marry in the state where you reside. There is a website called theknot.com. They have the requirements for getting married in the US for each state listed. You can go there to read rules and wait times. In NY, it's 24 hours but no blood test.

You have to go to a town or city clerk in the place you want to marry... in fact if you get a marriage liscense from one place and get married somewhere else all that means is your marriage certificate and record will be from whereever you were married...

you can get a marriage certificate in Polk county Texas and get married in Lee county Florida and it will legitamte and valid.... But I don't know why anyone would want to do that since most marriage certificates are issued the same day and can be used the after 24 hours...

Remember that both parties have to be present to sign the certificate
