I HATE the men who go around with a stolen supermarket buggy sifting through our trash to find cans and bottles redeemable for a nickel. I look down on them and chase them away from my trash. I'm sure they think that's their full time job and they work hard at it, rain, snow, wind or hail.

I HATE the men on Broadway in NYC who work full time at begging for money in the streets. They have no pride and live very comfortably off of the handouts of others. That's their full time gig and they make probably better money than me, but it's despicable to me and worthless.

I know it's wrong to pass judgement, but I admit that I do. The reality is I could see two people in the same job and look down at one of them because they are lazy and shiftless. There is a difference to me between an office clerk who is performing at the top of his/her skill level and an office clerk who is too lazy to do a job more appropriate to their skill level because then they couldn't party on Thursday nights or take as much time of work to veg out. So, I'm terribly judgmental and need to work on that. But everyone has their faults, so whatever.

I voted "other." I don't think I'm better than anyone else who works hard for a living. But I do have disdain for people who don't try.

I spent 7 1/2 years in college/graduate school and I make far far less money than other people who have the same education as I do. But I chose to give up a university teaching job to teach high school because of my personal beliefs about education. I'm clearly not in it for the money. However, I have been on the receiving end of criticism and hateful remarks because I am "just a teacher." One such remark was made by a person whose child I taught.

So, no, I don't think I'm better, but I do think that some professions just don't get the respect they deserve.

I think this question is a good one cause I do believe some people do look down on certain industries. I say that because I read people on here write about the jobs their husbands may get when the arrive (from 3rd world countries) and I read the distaste in their words for things like fast food or menial labor.

I think every job is an opportunity to better yourself and your situation, no matter what it is.

I agree, and yes, that's pretty much what lead to the question.

...Not the better half. "

I think a lot of people still have this attitude.

Titanic right?

Yep, Titanic.

There are jobs that I would consider to be worse than mine, but that doesn't mean that I am better than those who have those jobs.

I don't "look down" on people in the service industry or anyone with a crappy job, but I do think I'm better. :P

"Better" is a relative term though - today I'm better than them, tomorrow....anything can happen.

I wish I had been standing there to hear that. I would have given them a new perspective....... B)

Better position. I don't think my job makes me a better person. More ambitious or hard-working,

perhaps......but even that is debatable.

HATE is a strong word, do you ever question why these people are doing this, it wasnt to long ago it was the thing for everyone to save cans for extra spending some for fun some for need, schools turn cans into cash etc. So maybe in looking you might just be actually seeing equal to yourslef just looking for cans in the trash, also alot of these off the street are not mentally stable and know no better way to survive. Thost that stand on the corners and hold sign unfortunately the bad have over shadowed those that were in need, now you cant be sure who is who.

Yea. That's true. Also petty criminals and burgulars also think that's the best way to make a living. Their personal reality may have skewered their moral compass. But they still disgust me.
