Do you think you're "better" than people who have jobs that are less glamorous than yours? For example, if you have an office type job do you look down on people in the service industry, etc.? Does your salary help determine your value as a person?

Nope. I respect anyone who works hard at a job to support themselves.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

Same here. Your job doesn't reflect on what kind of person you are. Neither does money.

It took me along time through schooling, and work during schooling to get me where I am. I appreciate that dedication and do take pride in my acomplishment that my job really is in a better level than many lower jobs. The entry-level salary that I received was about 60k. It is hard work to get up there.

I think this question is a good one cause I do believe some people do look down on certain industries. I say that because I read people on here write about the jobs their husbands may get when the arrive (from 3rd world countries) and I read the distaste in their words for things like fast food or menial labor.

I think every job is an opportunity to better yourself and your situation, no matter what it is.

That's fair enough and good for you for doing that. But do you really think people who make less money than you or have a job title that isn't quite as impressive as your own, are below you? I think that's what the poll is asking.

I agree, and yes, that's pretty much what lead to the question.

"Half the people on this ship are going to die.

...Not the better half. "

I think a lot of people still have this attitude.

Honestly, my motivation in the first place that drove me into my present state is the anger that people have been stereotyping me in the past. It have made me mad to be below these people, so I excelled. I mentor people during my spare time now to help them gain higher earnings from their current jobs. I tell them what I feel about their job.

Some people have their reasons why they cannot achieve higher potentials. It's a little of everything. I do condescends most people who are brought up in a middle class family and basically hold low paying jobs. I came from a poverish stricken income because my family are first generation immigrants who don't even know English. I use that example to prove that you can do anything once you're in America. Generally, if you work as a cashier customers already have a stereotype of you. I once was a cashier. I rather respect the lower paid people, than the moderately payee.

I don't know if I made sense. I think I favor first generation immigrants jobs.

I think it's hard for the immigrant to 'go down' from the jobs they held in their home country. I really don't think they look down on those positions, but they are frustrated for having to take backward steps. To be honest, that would be difficult for anyone.

I've always worked in an office environment (except for retail in college). About six years ago, I took the 'training' at our county Board of Education office and passed the test for School Cook. I was really interested in the position (even though some might think it menial) because I was after the county benefits and regular pay. Plus I thought it was good hard work that you could 'leave behind' when you went home at the end of the day.

But, when I was offered the position I didn't take it because it started off as 'fill in'. The Board guaranteed you absolutely no minimum number of hours per week. I couldn't afford to have weeks where I didn't work. Plus even though I'm not afraid of hard physical work, at 45 years of age I wondered if switching careers to a job that DEMANDED all day long physical labor would be a smart move.

The pension would have been great though, plus state health insurance. And once you were full time, it paid about 24K per year. Good honest wages.

No, although a better description of a "crappy" job may be in order. Personally, I'd shovel ####### before I'd work behind the counter at a McDonalds. But I have equal respect for both. Work is work.

Agreed. There are certain jobs I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole, but I don't look down on those who work them.

It was purposely vague. Crappy as in whatever you deem to be crappy.
