Sorry to go off topic here a sec consolemaster..but I just laughed out loud at this...oh sorry LOLLLLLLL'd ;) hehehehe....because after hanging around a while...even off and on...you learn that (and it's all message boards not just here) that the sameeeeeeeeeee topics come up timeeeeeeee after timeeeeeeeeee after timeeeeeeee. It's kind of like if you keep clothes long enough they will come back in fashion again!

NOw...before you are offended...I'm not saying anything is wrong with this at all..it's just the way of things. But...I see so many new names that I don't recognize at all and all the same topics being discussed that "my group" talked about. It's just funny to me is all. (and some of you I see are old buddies with new names, too!) It's just that they get discussed like they are big new ideas! LOL! (not this one, just in general)

My opinion is...it doesn't really harm anyone unless you are bumping tons of them and knocking most thread off the page that people have just posted and may want to talk about more than "old news' that could get annoying..or if you are bumping a thread for spite just to annoy someone, or...you get the drift. If you are bumping it because it is directly relative to something that's being discussed ...on another thread or wherever...I can't see how that could be a big deal. Would just be more information/opinions, no?

Lots of people will say let them lie though...to me....eh. whatever. Some people stress way too much on little stuff. ;) Mich :)

Unless something new has come to light that is directly relative to that particular thread, I don't really see the point of resurrecting old threads. A lot of times I'll see a thread that started out with the OP saying "my husband cheated on me blah blah," followed by 20 pages of discussions and flames, etc. Then it'll go away for a month or so, only to be resurrected with "you should totally dump him girl!" Makes me wonder if that poster's mouth keeps drying out for all the breathing they do through it.

If you have something to say, start a new thread. If it's been said over and Over and OVER again, and now it's finally buried, then please stfu and let it stay dead and buried. The only time I can really see the point in resurrecting an old thread is if you have something NEW to say that is relevant to the old thread, and would not stand well in its own thread.

Having said that, I can't even remember the last time I saw a rezz'd thread that couldn't have just been left alone. Most of the time I see it, it's because someone wants to increase their post count.

Not all threads are created equally. Those that contains people offending should lay to rest; however, those that contain actual information should be renewed.

If an OP really doesn't want their thread revived, they can request it be locked.

You're assuming the OP is still around. I've seen threads resurrected after months in the grave. Also, not everyone realizes they can request their thread be locked.

if they're not around, would they really care if their thread was resurrected? :)

Hmm, if the information contained is somehow still pertinent, doesn't hurt to bump older posts? I know that won't always apply with this forum in particular as the very nature of immigration is to change over time, but still, it may be relevant. Some aspects of the process seem fairly rigid, such as being able to travel and visit during the wait for visa approval, and collating people's experiences in a single, easily referenced thread is probably more useful on the whole.

nothing wrong with bumping old threads if it is done for informational purposes, but just to bump an old thread just for the sake of stirring up controversy is another thing, lol But whatever floats your boat!! Not very many relevant postings in off topic anyway, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
