I encorage her to have friends. I draw the line at chatting with other men though (relatives excluded). Call it control or what you will but I have would have a problem with her chatting with another man on a computer that I bought, over the Internet that I pay for, on the time that she has free because I support her.

I agree. It also depends on whether or not the SO is aware of this talking. Two of my best friends are guys and we email and talk on the phone. But P is fully aware and we sometimes discuss the conversations. But we also have strong trust.

However, my ex did have a similar "friendship" with someone and though it never turned physical he did share with her many many things that he didn't share with me, which ultimately helped end our relationship. That wasn't cheating and it was a communication issue, but there can be danger...

Personnaly, i wouldnt chat with other men on the computer, just because I have pure intentions doesnt mean he would. many affairs start off with just being frinds the escalate to something else. That does not mean that it is not possible to just be friends , but its just a personal decision for me!! And may I add he doesnt foece me, so WideAwakeInTheUSA you have a wife not a daughter, let her know you dont like it and it makes you insecure, then let her make her own decisions!

My husband and I have a very simple theory:

If you feel that you have to lie/hide/or be secretive about chatting online or communicating with someone of the opposite sex; then it obviously means that (a) you know it is an inappropriate relationship and could be construed as cheating in some way, (B) you should desist from it as it could lead to more (why else would one not be honest about it in the first place) and © if you're unsure, put yourself in your partners shoes as to how you would feel if you found your partner in such a situation.

I thought the room looked like it had interesting people in it so I started chatting in there... I tell my hubby everything... I am in no danger of cheating etc because that wouldn't even cross my mind to do.. I love my hubby with everything I am and I could never do that to him....

There's no "right or wrong" here, is about what's right for you and your spouse/fiance, each case is different. I personally don't feel the NEED to chat with anybody, neither my husband but then again this is something that me and my husband discussed and came to that agreement,besides family there's no reason for me to be looking for friends or anything like it in the web.

No, I don't get the 'no chatting with the oppposite sex' argument at all. It's perfectly normal for humans to interact socially on so many levels so just because you get married and decide to have a monogomous sexual relationship shouldn't mean you have to take a vow of silence to the rest of the male species. yeah, I would never even consider cheating on my hubby... there is no harm in talking to people of the opposite sex... I always make it very clear that I am happily married so the guys don't get the wrong ideas...
